I just put a new one on my fresh engine and the fuel level is acting like yours and mine runs great. I also noticed that the glass bowl on the filter by the carburetor is full which tell me it is putting out enough volume. Jim

I could try that, it seemed long enough. But how long should it be?

This is the exact one I purchased if you can visualize the length before I have to pull it
And a mother pump question, how many check valves should they have, this new one has four, and the rebuildable one I have also has four, but the rebuild kits only have 2 Edited by General Eisenhower - 23 June 2021 at 11:16am |

I'm not gonna say mine is fresh but it has been rebuilt in the past 5 or six years, so it's well broke in at this point, maybe the idle needs adjusted at the carb, BECAUSE it was used to having the electric fuel pump shove gas down its throat and now it is getting it like it should

So the output side is partly filled up this time around, and I did play with the idle screw a tad to help give it some more fuel

So it started no issue after about 4 hours, I replaced a screw in the carb that was leaking fuel on acceleration, but that's unrelated
I adjusted the idle screw and now it idles at a healthy rpm, definitely not about to die, my standing hypothesis is that the carb was adjusted for the overwhelming fuel pump and thus when the little mechanic pump was installed it was running too lean. Cosmetic note, the data plates are now installed, I know it's not period but it matches the MB aesthetic |

Talking to a friend at work is what opened my eyes to the Idle adjustment, for some reason that even being a possibility eluded me before

Idles weird at normal settings, Idles fine at quarter choke, pump bubbles some, no line leakage. The idle screw doesnt seem to do anything, I can make it quit running but cant increase the rpm
Seems like it's not getting enough fuel, but how can I fix it. It some possible solutions

So the jeep put in work today, all gears and both 4 and 2 wheel drive and did flawlessly. It was pulling a 1950s chevy stepside.
It ran really good, the fuel level in the pump bowl varies but it has fuel... The engine block number has the stamp MC 1034

I'll check again tomorrow, stamping is shallow
Also put corn head grease into the steering box and knuckles, I am attempting to get my parking brake to work, you can pull it but it wont engage, so I'll look into it Edited by General Eisenhower - 27 June 2021 at 11:12pm |

Corn head grease in the steering box??? I'm not sure that is the best for the bushings that support the sector shaft. 140 weight oil is what is called for. |

My Service Manuals (SM-1002-26, SM-1046) both call for SAE 80 in the Steering Gear housing. The later SM shows SAE 140 for the knuckles (covers only CJ3B and up - probably due to phase-out of CV knuckles).

Yea it has a leak and the last oil I put in is all pretty much drained, so I took the lazy way instead of re sealing the box. It gets warm enough being by the exhaust to liquify but also seals the leak pretty good

Did some more scrubbing on the block and the number is either 10348 or 10349 but the stamping is shallow and I'm having a hard time on the last number

Yea I have the universal service manuel, but I figured oil doesnt do any good if it wont stay put.... the good news is the leaf spring shackle under it is really well lubricated and water proof!

Picture from sunday after it got done its work
Like I said before, it did it all on Sunday, 2wd up to 50 miles an hour and about 35 miles round trip, used 4hi and 4lo, pulled a truck some, cruised through some fields, everything did really well and I am happy with it. Edited by General Eisenhower - 29 June 2021 at 11:47am |
