Now that I have this 2A operational I am turning my attention to a CJ5 which had sat in storage for 42 years but only has 33K miles. I rebuilt the carburetor and have it running off a boat gas tank. I just need to rebuild the brakes, adjust the clutch and work on fuel delivery to get it moving again. I already have a new tank, and fuel pump. Just waiting on new fuel and brake line kits.
As said the 47 is drivable and legal now so I don't want to tear it down until I have another Jeep to drive, but it will be getting replacements on the Transmission and Transfer case. This Jeep came to me without a skid plate. I have an extra one from an early CJ5 I expect will fit. I have ordered some parts for the T90, and transfer case rebuilds for the 2A. Last time I was into one of these was 1989, and back then I used wooden dowels turned to the right diameter as "dummies" to bench load the bearing. I looked to see if anyone was making something for this, which seems reasonable, but got no result so I guess I will have to set up the wood lathe and turn some new dowels. I actually have two T90s I plan to rebuild, the other will eventually go behind a Buick V6 in another CJ5 I have in the barn.

Oldpappy Question for you. You wouldn't have a pair of axles out of a narrow track Cj5 that you would want to part with ?

if it will help anyone else ill be glad to provide photos and an affidavit that I paid the whopping sum of $2.00 US. For CHUG. Complete with valid title and bill of sale both from the previous owner. Should help drag the average down to a manageable level.

Sparky,
I have a 1967 CJ5 "parts Jeep". I don't know what "narrow track" means but I can measure. I haven't been into the axles so don't know their condition but I don't need them. The Jeep was being used up until it was taken apart about 15 years ago so they may be good. I see you are in Lancaster PA. I will be going up to central WV sometime in late May or early June if you wanted to meet up there that would cut the trip in half.

Measure the width of the axles from outside to outside. Front and back axles. Check and see if they have a tag on the cover area too. If you can take a couple of pictures of both axles and send them to me,that would be great.
Thanks, Mark

The wife has me painting fence for the next day or two. I need to finish that before I will be able to drag that CJ5 out of the darkness of the barn it is in and into the light to take some pictures and measurements. I was planning to drag it out anyway because someone on the CJ5 forum is asking about some body panels.

She looks like a beauty! Great to see another one brought back to life and cared for the way you do.

Thanks for the compliments, I have enjoyed bringing it back to serviceable shape. I haven't done that much to it cosmetically other than new fenders and tailgate. I may do a little work on the tub and repaint it overall, but not going to do a full restore, just drive it. Then, when I got to the store the owner, from India, was also very interested in it and asked a bunch of questions. Several people were looking it over from a distance. I have had fun driving it around, but I think I better get to work on rebuilding a transmission for it as it began to make even worse noises on the drive home, but the engine seems to run better every time I take it down the road. I think it needed the exercise. When cold, just pull the choke, two pats on the pedal and she fires right up. When warm she fires right up soon as the starter is engaged. Sounds real good too. I upgraded the front brakes to 11" drums and was considering doing the same on the rear but now that I have them adjusted properly it stops very well so I may just leave the 9" on the rear.
