Had no clue of the wide variety of cool stuff people collect. Appreciate the responses - the folks on this page are awesome. Always something to learn.

Stan, this Grand Tanker is an 30 06. I also have a bayonet and ammo coming for it.

Enjoy, keep us posted how it shoots, I had a .308 tanker, fun shooter, always got a lot of looks at the range, but not famous for accuracy compared to a full size garand.

Yup, the U.S. Army tried it and scrapped the idea pretty quick. Guess the tankers figured out the M3A1 "Grease Gun" fit their cramped lifestyle much better, even without the bayonet. Unless you have one of the ultra-rare prototypes or experimental models, "Tanker Garand" is pretty much a civilian market thing. I like my full size Springfield made in 1942.

An enviable lifestyle, suspect a lot of time and resources goes into it & and worth every bit. The ultimate off road vehicles.

I suspect many of us believe we are collecting hidden items of historic or intrinsic value... better known as treasure.
I collect 1941-1952 Willys design and manufacturing data, artwork, photos, parts, accessories, tools, and toys , they take up more space than most people would think. I've also got a few 1990's and 2000's Jeeps like Grand Cherokee 5.9's, Diesel KJ's., and TJL.

I thought the M1 Garand is .308 NATO, first I have heard of a 30-06 Garand, but military arms was my dad's thing to collect. I collect old Colt SSAs and old Winchester rifles.
If you want a 30-06 I have a very nice 03 Springfield MK 1. Edited by Oldpappy - 17 Sep. 2021 at 1:27pm |

"Muley",
Now your name makes sense. When I used to ride horses there was an Amish community up the road from the stables where I kept my horses. They traded a few horses with the stable owner, one of which was a cross between a Percheron and a Quarter horse. It was a buckskin and looked like Matt Dillion's horse only a whole lot bigger. That horse was overly friendly and would walk all over you if you weren't careful. Fellow up the road has a team of big mules and we used to see him driving a wagon with them past our house about once a week, but haven't see him on the road in the last couple of years. The mules are still there, and every now and then a grey Jack he has will get loose and show up on my place, once it was on the back patio and when I opened the door he tried to come into the house.

No such thing as ".308 NATO". It's 7.62mm for military loaded ammo and .308 for commercial loaded ammo. The Garand was made and designed for .30-06 ammo. Some were converted by the military for 7.62mm in the 1960's. |

Garand was always 30-06, although I seem to recall they were tested in.270 win. The M-14 was .308 or 7.62 nato. As far I know the only .308 garand was the tanker and it was a civilian conversion, not military. Your 03 Springfield will be easy to sell if want to turn it, more demand for them than ever before. |

Like I said, the military rifles were my father's interest and he only had one Garand. We shot .308 in it, and it is the only Garand I ever shot, so pardon my lack of knowledge on the rifle.
The Springfield MK 1 is in very nice condition, other than someone in the past put a shiny finish on the stock. Head space is right, the bore is excellent, and the finish on the metal is near perfect. I haven't been trying to sell it, but would certainly consider a reasonable offer. The only other military rifle I had was a mint Winchester M1 Carbine which I traded for a Jeep last year. |

Yeah, no real surprises in that list (except the wagon guy) lol. I'm no surprise either. Guns, Swords, Knives/weapons other than military jeeps/vehicles. Sometimes you really CAN judge a book by its cover. |
