I have no idea what any of the factory made hard tops weigh. But I was wondering what you guys would think was an acceptable weight for a hard top. Granted any weight is going to raise the CG and add to the load. Costing acceleration, and cargo. I'm not sure aside from acceleration if a good hard top will cost mileage due to the improved aerodynamics. My top is going to be almost all Aluminum but will have some dense components in the Micarta corners and there will be somethings built into the top that will add weight. But I wonder what is the norm. |

I don’t wanna weigh mine right now but it depends on a lot of factors.
Steel vs aluminum and half cab vs full cab. A lot of big glass really bumps the weight up. I would much rather have the ample glass. The doors are often heavy especially with roll up windows. On the plus side having a heavy gauge steel cab like Koenig or Beck can pretty well eliminate the need for a roll cage. I felt pretty safe in my Koenig Super half cab The SuperCab has great visability, heats very well, relatively quiet, and doors can easily be removed. The half cabs offer as much and possibly better roll protection than a full cab.

You're already building it out of aluminum (versus factory steel top) All the components are decided on already, you already know *how* you are going to build it. It should be lighter than a factory top anyway you do it. Bottom line is "acceptable weight for a hardtop" is a moot point isn't it? It is what it is ......and lighter than a factory top (unless you go crazy with some kind of heavy interior components which I don't foresee you doing)....so, is the weight of a factory hardtop "acceptable" *to you*? You're worrying to much. Build it and they will come. |

My aluminum half cab is amazingly light. I'm not sure if it weighs 50 pounds.
It is so light, it causes my Jeep to be up side down.
