i know there are the standard places to buy Willys parts like Kaiser Willys, Walcks, Joes, RFJP, etc... But I need to get a set of pistons and rings for my L134 and was wondering for the guys that have bought new Pistons for their engines, where do you buy from?

I let my machine shop take care of that. They determine what size will be needed, order the pistons & rings, and bore the block to fit. They use quality components and get a good price.

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

I also let the machine shop order the pistons, rings, bearings, and valve guides / seats. I usually supply new valves or tappets when needed as I have some NOS on the shelf.

I may have offered these up before, but I have a set of 0.060" Sealed Power pistons with Hastings rings that were removed from my jeep's cracked block a shop tried to fix. They have at most, 30 minutes run time.

Otto,
I read through that entire thread and you sure had an ordeal, but sounds like you found a machine shop that stands behind their work and that is a treasure. The machine shop I have used for nearly 50 years has been in business since 1928, but the current owner who is the son of the man who started it, told me last Spring when I had some engine work done that once he and his brother retire the place will be gone as the younger generation of the family doesn't have an interest in keeping it going. Those guys have to be my age or more so the place won't be around much longer. They have always done great work, and they stand behind what they do, so I will be sorry to see them go. Getting back to your post. I have a couple of engine blocks I will be taking in to that machine shop soon. One is at .040 over now, if it turns out to be a good block I may take you up on the offer if nobody else springs for them. Edited by Oldpappy - 23 Jan. 2022 at 2:00pm |

Oldpappy, The shop I used has been in business since 1934 so they've learned that it pays to take care of customers, which they certainly did. I also conducted myself much differently than in my younger days, making a scene and expressing my displeasure- I think that also helped. I continue to buy auto parts from them even though they're not the cheapest store; once these type of businesses are gone they're gone for good. IIRC, another member contacted me about the pistons the last time I mentioned them. We'll let Mr. Scratch think about it for a bit.

Thanks for the offer, but I need factory sized Pistons right now. Feel free to help out someone else on the board.

One of the three engines I just finished tearing down is at standard bore. If it turns out to be a good block I will be building my engine with that one. I am sure it will have to be bored to clean up the rust in the cylinders, but I don't expect it will need to go .060 oversized.
