Anyone know where I can get caps for the cells on a 6v battery? Mine is missing a couple.
I've been searching the internet with no luck, and when I ask the guys at the local auto parts stores I get nowhere. Just about ready to get the jeep off the jack stands and I don't want the acid splashing out when I take it for a test drive. Figured I'd see if any of you have any good ideas for sourcing or fabricating. |

Go to the hardware store and buy a couple rubber stoppers that will fit. How does a Battery loose its caps?

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

That means you have one left?
I suspect that any place that sells batteries will also take used batteries to recycle. Find a place that sells 6V batteries and if they take dead batteries for recycle go in and talk with them. Take your remaining cap to compare. Aim for old caps off a dead battery vs. a new cap. When I did a google search, I saw a lot. May need to search by brand/type. Some I saw were on ebay. Are there any tractor salvage/graveyards in your area?

Thanks all for the replies.
I figured the 'how in the world did that happen' questions wouldn't take long I don't know exactly - I had it stored at my grandmother's house when I was between houses, and best I can tell is my uncle must have popped them off to check the fluids or something. All I really know is that there was only one left when I towed it down here. Thankfully somehow the fluids stayed in place on the trip here. I'm on Long Island so there's virtually nothing in terms of salvage. Tried the parts stores to scavenge caps from dead batteries without luck. I had found this link a while back but wasn't sure if they'd work since they're quarter turns and the cap on my Napa just pops on. I guess all things considered worst case I'd only waste a few $ if I give them a try. https://www.flowsystemsusa.com/battery-caps.html?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIyvifp_jW9QIVFm5vBB35XQh0EAQYASABEgLAZvD_BwE Edited by imac - 29 Jan. 2022 at 7:31am |

I confess I just assumed a 6V would have threads or a twist type setup vs. a push type cap (I've seen those on the 12V batteries). Hard to keep up with everything. Knowing this about your caps allowed me to narrow a search.
This popped up: I wonder if these are still available: Pricey: |

That's a big help - thanks! Seemed like when I was searching the results were either the quarter turns or terminal covers.
