Good to know. I shut it off. I can run it longer next time and see if it opens.

Mine does the same thing Bruce mentions, climbs up to around 210 then settles at about 175, with the infared. The gauge is proportionally offset displaying around 140...

This is a really thoughtful approach to getting a Willys in this condition back on the road. Useful stuff, thanks for sharing!

Houston. The Eagle has landed.
First time my jeep has moved since late 2016. My wife was not too sure about the way we escaped the little spot where (behind 5th wheel and lumber stacks and etc) Wallace had been languishing. Hey, thank god for fencing screws, right? I had to remove a whole panel to get out. Place of honor on the street. No flowers were harmed during the break out. There is more to do before I can actually go on an adventure- adjust brakes, fix the u joint I replaced but effed up somehow (too tight), fill steering box with suitable lube. But for now, I am pretty happy to meet this milestone. So many jeeps just keep sitting and sitting good intentions all around but time flies and like Pink Floyd said nobody told him when to run. Before I actually moved my jeep I changed the diff fluid.
This is what went back in The drain plug on the rear axle had been mashed by rocks and I had to grind it down about 1/8th to delete the turned in metal lip that made the 1/2" socket into something else entirely I think it was time...that is not engine oil! The character of gear oil out of the front ... Edited by jhg - 20 Apr. 2022 at 9:53am |

The wire, switch to fuel gauge, has been replaced. It was much bare.
I have been wondering why, when a wire is under 24" long, bubba treats the replacement wire as if it were made from gold, incredibly expensive, rare to source and otherwise dear. So a 20 " wire must be cut exactly long enough to reach its stud (if stretched tight). It must also be routed the shortest distance between A and B. To hell with if it interferes with something or blocks access to something else, like all the gauges, their wires, and etc.
There is something wrong with my parking brake ratchet. Wondering if its missing something or glued open from an over zealous oil canner. Edited by jhg - 14 Apr. 2022 at 8:31pm |

Today the jeep went out for its first run with new brake lines, transmission and tc, and the sundry other stuff done to it lately.
A couple weeks past the deadline but I don't care. The engine runs so beautifully it is hard to describe. Gear driven in-lines are wonderful engines. So smooth. We did some off trail wheelin' through a burn scar. One thing a 2a is great at is threading through timber. Edited by jhg - 17 Apr. 2022 at 11:20pm |

The tires worked great. So that is a plus. The compound feels soft. I actually felt they were grabbing and that is a good thing. I am running these tires tubeless on the original steel rims, having dressed their edges fair. (as they were with the normal dings and etc from 70 plus years of service)
I have rubbing with these nearing hard over, so have lost turning radius. Check one in the negative column. I feel the taller tires have changed the gear ratio. Creeping is barely doable with these when with 6.00 size it was no problem. Check two on the negative side. Edited by jhg - 18 Apr. 2022 at 12:26pm |
