Progress has been slow but steady. The bar is tacked in and I finished the frame tie ins on the passenger side yesterday. I have some more bracing to add and lots of welding to do...but the basic shape is done. I want to retain the GPW toolboxes and still be able to remove the tub so I had to do a little extra work. Since Im not building a "correct" Military Jeep I wasnt worried about making the bar look exactly like MB bows. But I  do want it to look more like canvas bows than a roll bar So I added 5 degrees of pitch to both main hoops. I know it looks silly without the top on but once its painted and has canvas on it I think it will look pretty good. I rarely drive my jeep without the top on it.

Nice job, particularly on keeping the tool boxes functional.  Are you going to add a front hoop and spreader bars?

Thanks! No front hoop. I’m just a a “roll bar” guy. This will be basically the same as the bar my tdi jeep.

Cant remember where I left off but the roll bar is completely done and tied in....

I converted the headlights to beamtech H4 LED bulbs. these things are amazing and draw such little power. I had to drill my buckets to give the cooling fans some air. (dont worry they're not original buckets)

My lovely wife has been working on the seats for me. She has done a great job. The nice Thing about a hodgepodge jeep is that is doesn't have to match or be "correct" which is how i like it.

Next up is the TOP..... Im hoping to build a summer top that can have panels and doors added to it for the different seasons.

My wifes household machine isnt up to the task of punching that heavy waxed canvas so I picked up this little fella on marketplace.

After a quick 3-phase conversion in the garage I was welding fabric in no time... Sewing is a completely new skill for me so im moving kinda slow.

Dealing with the larger panels has completely taken over my shop. haha!

I made a prototype out of cheap $1.99yd fabric before I cut canvas. It was kind of a pain since conventional bolts are only like 58" wide instead of the 72" wide canvas.... oh well it gave me more practice with the machine.

GROOVY haha!

Once I was happy with the pattern I started cutting the canvas.... Its a little stressful this stuff aint cheap! Top and rear panel are done.

I will use different fasteners once its done... those are just washers and magnets holding thigs in place for now. So far So good!

Next up is edge banding and hardware. Once the summer top is done ill move on to the doors and side curtains... Thanks for watching!

Nice job! Where did you get the cushions for the seats?  I’m looking at making my own seat covers too.  My brother has a sewing setup he uses for sailboat sails, so at least I have some guidance and the right tools at my disposal.

I kept wondering when you were going to paint the tub, but now I see your vision… and I really like it!

Thanks! I just picked up some really dense foam from a local surplus store. I got a 4’x6’ piece of it for $8 it was enough to do all the seats. I have seatbacks too but they weren’t installed when I took those pictures.  Yeah for now I have no plans to paint anything. I have great respect for people who completely restore their military Jeeps but I like to be different and this thing isn’t really a military jeep anyways I’m just going to keep the patina the hollow parts kinda have a cool history anyway I would have to o
Cover it up. They are original 1945gpw parts with of green still visible where the yellow flaked off. A friend of mine Bought the gpw they came off and had been storing them for years. I sealed the seams in the tub and fluid filmed the entire body so she’s good to go and should last quite some time.

personally don't care at all for the patina thing.

but i kinda like what you got going there. as always your work is admired. at least by some.

and yipee on the industrial sewing machine score. will broadly expand your horizons. they are fun and very useful.

Thanks. Everyone has their own preference.  I made the last one shiny and now it’s all scratched up and dented from the trail so I figured I would save some time and money 😆 plus I know they’re won’t be another one that looks just like it. Haha!

(full disclosure, this is my first time sewing anything) Its definitely not perfect but i'm happy with the results so far. Ive Been chipping away at the top... the Mitsubishi is a beast and hasn't skipped a beat!.  It chugged through 4 layers of the waxy canvas and binding with no problem! The summer top is basically done.. just need to add the hardware now. Next up will be the doors and side curtains.

So that means your next one will be a shiny garage queen so it can stay shiny?  Hey, there's nothing wrong with that unless it's your only Jeep.

Actually, there's nothing wrong with that even if it is your only Jeep!  Big smile

Rear panel is almost done....

Prepping the rear buckles

Straps installed and window is in!

Trimming the windows.

Im digging it! I made the rear fasteners face outward so I can retrieve sundries from the back of the jeep without having to crawl inside. The side curtains will be the opposite.

No, onto the doors! I using a set of besttop door frames from a cj3

The Passenger door is done!

A view from the inside.

Both side panels and passenger door is done... all that's left is the drivers side door and this project is in the books!

Awesome job Seth!!  I had never done any sewing before making my top either - and discovered that it is really fun!  You are inspiring me to finish up some changes and details on mine.  You're doing great!
