Boot bags can be very useful. The guys who work behind our pavers at work spend all day walking on Asphalt Tack (super sticky oil used to bond layers of Asphalt) and at the end of the day they almost all change out of their boots so as to not get the crap all over the pedals and carpet in their vehicles and the stuff tends to glue your boot to the pedals to the point you have to twist your foot before you can move it to the next pedal. A Boot bag would be a way to store the boots until your next shift.

Also think about farm workers with everything from mud to cow poo on their boots.

Did you see the boot bag they have listed? When did boots start needing a bag?

I used these urathane socket holders on my enduro bike tool kit.
Work great & are flexible.

Yes, I agree....though I didn't describe it as such, that's what I was referring to with my "normal Craftsman/ Harbor Freight options" comment in my post.  They were the first thing that came to my mind. Almost as convenient as the threaded rod idea (and better in some ways, you can remove just the socket you need)

I know HF seems to get a bad rep on here but this is the kind of thing they excell in....cheap little doodads with a purpose.

Why couldn't one use a "socket rail", (Google it), & put that in a tool roll pocket? It is what I do when I am backpacking into a deep woods job site with no air support.

Seemed to be ALOT of pretty cool products on that site....haven't looked at everything yet but some neat looking bags and accessories from what I've seen so far.

Step 1  www.Google.com      Step 2  'Socket holder for tool bag'

Ken's suggestion is how all our 'catch call' mechanics used to carry theirs...or a variety of the same idea. ( a variation of an oversized blanket pin seemed to be popular)

Put sockets onto a round loop of thick wire.

Took me 5 minutes to improvise this split ring…
But I like the rod idea better.

I like the "threaded rod in a pouch pocket" idea better than the "Pouch-O-Sockets" idea, but they both have the problem of having to make all of them loose and drop-able in order to get to possibly the one you want that might be in the middle.

I wonder if there are any ideas on stacking them like the stackable pencils from back in the day like this:

EDIT: After posting, I just now realized that it would work to use the threaded rod idea, but remove the nuts on both ends, then just pull the socket from one end, and put it on the other end until you get to the one you want, never having more than one socket loose and off the rod at a time.  I guess that would work.

I'm still open to other ideas...

The back packing world and others have these small, zippered pouches designed as  "add ons". They are small enough that you could have a couple with a range of sockets in each. But organized beyond that? Not to my knowledge.

I get the tool rolls for wrenches and screwdrivers, but is there a soft sided, organized way to store sockets?

SO this gives me an idea I have a couple of Kayak water proof bags and I think my little Nylon tool bag will fit into one of them. I think I will add this to my tool storage as a double safety. My tool box area in CHUG is all scratch built aside from the outer vertical sides and has a very water tight seal. But just to be extra careful with the tools.

It allows me to mold it to fit in the tool box in between various other equipment and spares. granted its not as Organized and a roll and does nothing to help me know if I left a tool on a tire. But then I am pretty good about keeping track of my tools.
This is pretty much the route I go.  Not rolls or boxes, but bags.  There are tons of tool bag options at the various big box home improvement stores and if you're on a tight budget a trip to your local goodwill could hook you up with multiple bags for less than 20 dollars.
