All,
I am really wondering that mine isn't Clear Maple, a 1948 color used on the Station Wagon. It is not Michigan Yellow.. and is the original paint.
So, does anyone know if Willy's tried any "sample" runs on the CJ's, using its stock of paint intended for other bodies? Thanks! |

I like your canvas top. Where did you get the frame and canvas? I would like to put one on my Willys.

This is getting a little off-topic from paint colors, but some very interesting stuff. From the link that Steelyard shared:
Wilson's serial tag is 65990, the tub and tailgate are 56021, only 31 away from the 10,000 rule! . . so most likely were the original tub and tailgate. I always assumed someone attached a borrowed serial tag to this tub, and registered it that way. Cool, Wilson may be "numbers matching". haha (at least on body etc, . . . the drivetrain/engine is not even close)

Thanks guys. 114429 is what I think I read on the tub gusset. Tailgate is harder to see the way I have it parked in the barn but it starts with 1144xx. Adding 10k would put the serial number in the 124429 range. That is a little under 600 above the serial number I have. According to the chart, another 20,000 jeeps went out the door after mine to get to 1948. If I am reading everything correctly, my serial number and ACM numbers are from 1947.

Need more info about ACM numbers… where to find… what to look for… the frame tag is gone because there are reinforcement plates installed for the Ramsey winch.

JeepFever,
Thanks for doing that. Pretty cool to see things broken down. Jeff J, Not surprising that the tags came off during a repaint. At least they were not so lazy as to paint over them. Does your body have an ACM number? Micah

are you on an android phone? it would be helpful if someone with android phone could compare methods used on iPhone to overcome some of the challenges of placing photos on this forum to see if the same strategy could be employed.
or it may be that an android phone does not produce the troublesome issues experienced on an iPhone? Edited by bight - 27 Sep. 2022 at 1:53pm |

I always thought this one was original because it came to me with a title from the sixties but I see something this morning I hadn’t noticed before. The screws holding the data plates are 3 different types.
My other flat fender is a CJ3A frame with a CJ2A body, CJ3A windshield and an M38 hood so I know parts are pretty interchangeable. <edit>That was the second attempt at loading the picture from my phone. It was upside down the first time so I rotated the picture in my phone 180 degrees and started over. Now I have an upside down on my phone and here instead of just here

Jeff J, is the body definitely original to its serial number? It is pretty easy to swap one out.

I have never really tried to figure out the original color of Wilson, but this thread got me curious.
There seems to be a lot of conflicting color chips out there (at least viewing them on my PC), but this Harvard Red chip from Kaiser Willys seems to be a really close match to the base color on my wheelwell tops (which seems to match what is under the dash) If I buffed that spot a little, it might be even closer match. I am going to stop here, and declare that 65990 was originally Harvard Red. Now up to 75 known Harvard Red's in 1946 My story actually has an unusual twist. When I first acquired Wilson 30+ years ago, I was doing some repair of rust in tub. On the right side, rearward of step, as I was preparing to weld in a patch, I cut out the rust, and was grinding away the paint to provide clean metal to weld. There seemed to be some kind of "emblem" appearing. I then very carefully removed the top layers of paint to reveal a partial fire department emblem, just above the red paint. My memory is getting fuzzy, but I think it implied a fire department near Wash DC. The original owner of 65990 may have been a fire department!! I always wondered if the factory did special paint in "Fire Engine Red" on request, but now think maybe they ordered a Harvard Red '2A and put their logo on it. If I had to guess, I would say my “pale yellow” is “fiesta yellow” but the color charts I have seen don’t show it until 1948.
