There are a lot of Jeeps out there with titles that don't really belong to them.

I have a Georgia title that came with a M38 I bought years ago that said is was a 1949 CJ2A, I have an Indiana title that came with a 48 CJ2A that said it was a 1953 CJ2A, I have a TN title that came with a 47 CJ2A that did say 1947 CJ2A on the title, but the serial number used for the VIN wasn't even close to the number on the Jeep.

In Tennessee with vehicles this old there are several ways to get a valid title that matches the vehicle.
If you can't get there in a Jeep you don't need to be there!

Is there a lot of title-tinkering on these?

What ever the title says, I would suggest not doing anything that would raise any questions about it.

Good point.  I forewent another CJ2a that
was closer to home and had a restored frame,
but did not have a title.

hammer,

it seems just having a title is a huge deal for most owners. i have a different year issue but let it go and was satisfied with whatever DMV gave me as long as it was a title.

Hi Hammer,

My Jeep is titled in Colorado as a 1949 but the VIN number is actually a late 1948. Someone here on the board sent me a copy of a letter that was sent to dealers in 1949 instructing them to sell their remaining 1948's as 1949's. I have somehow lost that letter but perhaps your Jeep is one of those.

Good looking Jeep! Smile

I’ve loaded some pictures but they don’t appear to be posting off of my phone. I’ll keep at it. I’m still on travel for this and next week so we’ll see how it plays out. More to come.

SN: 221788
And the mfg plate (?) has 205808

As it’s titled a ‘49 here in NC, can I show DMV
All of this and have it updated to ‘48?
Sounds like personal preference, but maybe it doesn’t matter?
