Cheers. My first post, of my first CJ2A. Wanted one for a long time and finally jumped in.
Title and seller advise it's a 1949, though I researched the serial and believe it may be a '48. So, the fun starts already. It's not running, nor stopping. I bought it primarily because it was 99% unmolested. Everything is there and seems to be intact. There is an added hitch extension, and there is an 80's era rifle mount center dash. There is one more oddity, and that is the stick-shift has a bulbous/curve, like an old pickup that bumped out to allow granny low against the seat. In this case, that seems odd, as there is nothing in the space between the seats to contact. I rebuilt a 67 GMC C-20, and a 78 CJ-5 once.. top to bottom that looked similar in patina.. so, I'm in and glad to be here. -Hammer Edited by Hammer - 17 Oct. 2022 at 12:31pm |

Welcome!
Great patina. I vote to rebuild the drive train & keep the body as it is ... Give it a rub down with boiled linseed oil to make it stand out.

I second what DASVIS said. Great look on that Jeep. Don't ruin that thing with fresh paint.

The "hitch extension" is Jeep. My 2A doesn't have one, but both of the CJ5s I have had one just like that.
Looks like a good start, would like to see a few more pictures. That shift cane does have an unusual bend to it, but folks bent them for various reasons. If it bothers you someone on here probably has a spare laying around.

If you can't get there in a Jeep you don't need to be there!

Best I can see it looks like the stock shift cane has a straight piece added to make it taller.

I have a couple of transmission tops that have that style of cane. I dont know what they came from, but I don’t like ‘em.

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

Welcome to the page, Hammer! I see wheels from an M151 there. Not a lot of non-original there besides the auxiliary taillights. Looks decent but more pics are always welcome.

But there's a really nicely patina-ed original NACO hiding underneath those add ons. |

And the mfg plate (?) has 205808 As it’s titled a ‘49 here in NC, can I show DMV All of this and have it updated to ‘48? Sounds like personal preference, but maybe it doesn’t matter?

I’ve loaded some pictures but they don’t appear to be posting off of my phone. I’ll keep at it. I’m still on travel for this and next week so we’ll see how it plays out. More to come.

Hi Hammer, My Jeep is titled in Colorado as a 1949 but the VIN number is actually a late 1948. Someone here on the board sent me a copy of a letter that was sent to dealers in 1949 instructing them to sell their remaining 1948's as 1949's. I have somehow lost that letter but perhaps your Jeep is one of those. Good looking Jeep!

hammer,
it seems just having a title is a huge deal for most owners. i have a different year issue but let it go and was satisfied with whatever DMV gave me as long as it was a title.
