Castor Shims are tapered so it depends on which shim you have and where along the taper they are centered. Summit Racing carries a bunch of different ones from 1° to a lot.

  Caster.
Castor oil is a vegetable oil pressed from castor beans. It is a colourless or pale yellow liquid with a distinct taste and odor. Its boiling point is 313 °C and its density is 0.961 g/cm³. It includes a mixture of triglycerides in which about 90% of fatty acids are ricinoleates. “Wikipedia

I was hoping someone other than me would respond. Thanks Bruce.

I still remember the smell of the Castor oil from riding in planes with Cole Palen at the Rhinebeck Aerodrome as a kid.

World War I plane designs relied on a small selection of engines, and most of them were lubricated with castor oil.

In my defense that was posted using Google talk to type while being loaded in my Dump truck. I have corrected my grievous error.

I have no experience with castor oil . .  and that is probably a good thing. Wink

My '2A has non-stock axles  . .  front and rear,  and has shims at both ends.
In the front -> to get proper caster angle,
In the rear -> to get proper driveshaft angle.   I do not like having shims in rear,  and will someday cut the spring perch off,  and weld where it should be.

If my math is correct,  assuming a 4" long shim (like mine),  the difference from one end to other should be:

1 deg 0.07"
2 deg 0.14"
3 deg 0.21"
4 deg 0.28"
5 deg  0.35"
6 deg 0.42"
7 deg 0.49"
8 deg 0.56"

Or lots of technical manual writers don't own a dictionary and the English-major proof readers were out to lunch that day?

Not any different than switching the words “then” and “than”. Different spellings, different meanings but it seems I see them interchanged more and more every day.
