These things are really great.  I use "Tubby" all the time including camping and hauling firewood to the cabin in the mountains.  They pull fantastic at all speeds. I typically pull at 70-75 but have been up to 85 when passing but would not do that often.  Unloaded they can do a little rocking side to side so I plan on adding the shocks when I cut out the floor to replace.

This one will need a new floor as well, but I'm not going to tackle that yet.  My goal was to get it pieced back together with tires under it to at least have a functional trailer.  I also have shocks for it, but no upper mounts so I'll have to find some or build some.

I haven't figured out the ball coupler yet.  The knob on top spins freely, but it doesn't tighten the ball retainer underneath.  The spring inside appears to be functional.  The knob has a square nut on it with a cotter pin through it.  Everything looks complete.  How do I get the coupler to tighten up on the ball?

The two images I see of your coupler, the knob appears original.  Does it have the notches on the bottom of the knob?

I seem to recall seeing a pattern for the notches but am search-challenged right now.

I don’t know, personally I would lean towards putting a new coupler on there. Why risk running an old worn out unit?

As you tighten the knob on the top, it pulls the locking piece underneath up which clamps on the ball.  It should be a 1 7/8” ball.  But without a ball in, feel underneath as you tighten the knob and see if the piece moves up.  They are not real complex.  You can also just undo the knob and take everything out from the bottom.

Here are the basic parts, although this is a newer model but basically same.

That’s what I’m missing - the tab that catches the notches in the knob, it’s broken off.

Mine is missing too but I have not had any problem with just snugging it tight.  It’s not backed off in thousands of miles.

Here's one that a member made a while back.

Bantam T3-C Serial #24011 - The CJ2A Page Forums - Page 6

Locking it so it won't turn is like the chains: extra added safety.

Well, just like that I’m out of the T3-C game. It went to southern oregon yesterday to a gentleman who plans to pull it behind his MB. I hooked it up to my 2a once for a glamour shot before it left.

Ya I have mixed feelings about letting it go, but with a J2500, Cj2a, and two CJ5s I’ve got my hands full and not enough room.
