Hello administrator, could this be made a “sticky” under “Research and History”?

There were NO rebuilt engines available through the Willys-Overland parts system. REPLACEMENT engines were painted red. Rebuilt engines available from many aftermarket sources could be any color, whatever the rebuilder wanted to use.

Ol' Red runs a Sears Roebuck rebuilt engine and has for the last 50 years. The color the rebuilder chose was a sort of metallic greenish blue. I have left it the way it came out of the shipping crate. The head was a Kaiser Supersonic head and originally used head bolts. I changed those bolts to studs when I had the head off in 2015 to check the condition of the valve seats.

Did not know this about the pedals. Makes sense. This might be a good alternative:

I used it on my front floors to keep them from rusting. It has a bit of texture and is holding up well.

Maybe a local shop can squirt them when they do someone's truck

Brake and clutch pedals had a non-skid paint on them: a paint with some kind of gritty stuff in it, for helping keep your feet from sliding off the pedals.  Many has been the time when I wished Ol' Unreliable still had that paint there.  Unhappy

There's a reason it's called Ol' Unreliable

I am very happy with VHT Epoxy in Satin or Gloss Black. No primer required.  It also comes labeled as VHT Roll Bar and Chassis paint

I don't see the transmission or transfer case listed, or the shifter canes, but I assume semi-gloss black? Thanx!

I beg to differ about the color of the gas cap.  Every vintage photo that shows the cap shows that it was originally black.  Body color caps were most likely the result of repainting and contemporary observations,

Take a look at these Reference Photos.  Every gas cap that is visible is black.

losttribe,

We folks here on the page put this list together over 2 years ago from the best information that we had available.  It was a collective effort to record the paint on each part of a Willys.

This list can be very helpful for a fussy restorer. Where did you get this? Is it from Willys literature?
