Whats the modern replacement for the high beam indicator light? I've tried searching both here and the G and the closest I found was a discussion of red vs blue...

I had no clue what that was at first! Grandpa had painted over top of it and it just looked like a screw of some kind.

By "modern replacement" are you wanting something 12volt or what do you mean.

I think you can still get the stock replacement..... 'stock' guys should pipe up shortly.

For 12V it's a #53 bulb, don't know about 6V but any parts place should be able to do the crossover. (BTW mine's blue)

Funny... when I did a search for places that sell the bulb, I find it for $.35 at an electronics place, but a whopping $5.30 PER bulb on a site that is specifically for old auto lamps/bulbs.

Think I would go with the electronics place.
The parts dealers have a captive audience.

I got mine off the shelf at work so I would think it's not that rare of a part, some old car part place might think so though.

can someone tell me how the indicator light comes apart? Or, point me in the direction of an exploded diagram or something? Mine has numerous layers of paint over it and I cant tell how it comes apart. I dont want to break it trying!

The front part screws in (you probably figured that out already if you've taken it out of the dash) the socket section just pulls out of the back of the housing, it's a friction fit, then the bulb can be removed. If you need it, I can pull mine apart and take some pictures. Let me know.

Our 47 has a blue. This a really close to original Jeep but as usual there is know way to be for certain. Our 48 and 49 have blue. Our 46 is too early to have one. These where working and not replaced when we brought them back from the dead so we reused all we could. This is just our jeeps for what it’s worth.

“Our 46 is too early to have one.”

What makes you say that? I was not aware that early CJ2-A’s did not have a high-beam indicator. BW

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

I’m not a historian and had to do some research on this for my resto. We found that our 45’ had no indicator light. I then went to Cheep Jeeps 46’ which had no indicator light. I called a friend about his and he had one on his 46’. This caused me some aggravation. There is no hole in the dash for those without but why? Also found out that I have a chain driven engine with numbers. After digging in some archives of other jeeps and there early numbers found that several also had no dash light indicators. I also contacted a few people registered on the kaiser registry about there dash. Like I said I’m no historian just a guy trying to figure out what I had. Lowenuf is looking in some archives he has to help with this Jeep also.

My '46 has a white high beam light in the original socket.
