Any one got a good pic of the ground strap to frame? I think it should be braided wire and goes from the battery to the front of the battery tray? Then a shorter braided wire from the passenger engine mount to frame bolt to the hole in the engine mount plate under the generator? Is that all there is? any from the body to the frame?

thanks in advance, Bob

Bob:

The battery to frame cable may have been round, cloth loom covered just like the + cable, or flat braided.  I've seen both types in photos of unrestored CJ2As.  Photos in the Willys manuals are sorely lacking detail, but appear to be round.

The motor mount to engine plate strap is bare flat braided.  This shows the left side attachment on a pickup truck, but it's the same method as right-side CJ2A (click to enlarge):

Worth mentioning here, is that the ground strap only connects to the engine plate, not the block itself.  But the block is effectively insulated from the plate by the gasket!  The electrical path is through the plate mounting studs, so the studs & plate mounting holes need to make good electrical contact.

FWIW, the eleven year old 2A that I had back in the day had a flat braided ground cable from the battery to the frame.   (Of course, it also had the glass bowl fuel pump, but those flat braided cables were unusual even then.)  I'm putting a flat braided cable on mine because I think it is correct.

Hi Bob...I added another ground strap from the generator to the rear starter mount bracket to insure a good ground for the generator. I also added a similar strap at the front grill corner to properly ground the grill to the frame. I used some take off bonding straps from a military application.

Robert --

Jon at Border Parts in Spring Valley has a bunch of them dirt cheap. (methinks just a couple of bux each)
Ron's Parts  has them for the MB/GPW crowd.
Army Jeep Parts and Pete DeBella as well.

I was lucky to find mine at a swap meet.Approve
