From the '45 parts list.  This bracket came off Jeep #34692

GROUP 32--02 ---- LICENSE PLATE BRACKETS

BRACKET, license plate, front assembly..........................PART No. 640745

The screws, springs and wing nuts pictured were on the front and rear brackets and look to be correct period fastners. There is no listed part No. for them so I'll assume they were installed at the dealer.

This is another of those items that Willys listed "Willy-Nilly".  (I think the term was coined from Willys parts lists.) Wink

In the '45 and '47 parts lists, it's in a Bumper sub-group of it's own: 32-02.

In the '49 list, it has been moved to the "Electrical" Parts group: 15-10, even though it has NOTHING to do with anything electrical ! Confused ???  Go figure!

The license attaching hardware is still not listed, so it was likely up to the dealer.  The bumper attaching hardware is given:

   BOLT, hex hd., 5/16"-24 x 7/8", nut & lockwasher.

Would anyone happen to have a picture of where it mounts on the front bumper?

I'm going to assume that the slots cut on the right side of my bumper are not the factory license plate mount.

another question just crossed my mind.

When I order mine, do I bolt the bottom or the top of the plate to the bracket?

Your are correct that those slots are not original to a 2A.  Here's another example of a very nice original front license bracket and bumper (hamhog's well preserved '47).

Could still be a factory bumper though.....3Bs used the slots.

That would explain why the slots look so cleanly cut.
