Looks Great! Just a suggestion, but for Hamiltons great FI kit on my 2A, I used the Tanks Inc retro fit sending unit in my tank and it has been flawless since the install. Lots of trips in the San Juans and at Moab with no air being sucked up. Fits under the seat with the supply and return located on the top of the tank.

Making progress, my new top of tank return works, could be because its plumbed better, or maybe returning to the bottom of the tank isn’t the best idea as suggested on the net. Either way my return pressure dropped from 5 to pretty much 0 with the new set up. I also took the time to set up my filter with quick disconnects. So now with the quick disconnects and the shutoff valve i put at bottom of the tank, i can replace my fuel filter in about 2 minutes with no tools and little fuel spillage. I used quick disconnects on the pump too, so i can change that with only a 7/16 wrench to remove the mounting clamp. I pre-made a couple extra fuel filter setups to have handy. The way i figured it, this TBI system is pretty fuel proof, the only real issues involve fuel delivery, likely clogged filters or a bad pump. So by carrying a spare on the trail i can have either of these issues fixed very quickly Now i can log some good data, burn another chip and see how it runs now |

Nice conversion you've put together there !!
So did the 3/8" hose solve the return pressure from the earlier 5-psi ? Do you have a link to share that was most helpful in determining which components to purchase to do this change-over ? I really like that air cleaner element. Always a nice treat when things fire right up too. With most of the newer auito's all the intake air ducting must be securely fastened on the engine, or it will not run. You will sure be spoiled soon with your instant-starts with the EFI. Okay, reviving an old thread.
I'm about to commit to Hamilton ($$$$) and wanted to see if anyone here has any updates. I'm going to use the In-Tank fuel pump someone mentioned. that looks great. Just need a bigger hole in the tank and then lots of little holes. We're people able to use the solid throttle linkage? Anyone go to cable? What is the air cleaner used that fits? Are you getting decent coolant temps off that T? Any other places to put the coolant temp sensor? What's the little T with the plastic feed line under the throttle body mounting plate?

Just out of curiosity, but why a build your own or Hamilton's instead of a Holley Sniper or similiar? Is it a cost or fitment issue, or? I want to do something similar and am just now wading into the research end of the pool.

I'd love to go with the sniper, but it's a fitment issue on the intake/head. Cost between Hamilton and Sniper is similar, but Hamilton gives you timing control in that cost where Holley you have to buy another box. I bought a cheap unit from Affordable Fuel Injection and the fitment was all off. So, I'm sending that back. The valve cover is very close to the inlet in the head. For a throttle body to fit, it has to come both up and out - and it can't come up very much or you'll hit the hood with the air filter.

Have you seen the hydramat fuel pick ups? I'm curious if that might help with the sucking air issue.

Thanks for sharing the info about the fuel line return location (top of the tank vs. the bottom). I'm about to do the same with a stock tank feeding a 4.3 TBI. Good information!
I love the quick connect idea. I might be stealing that idea as well

So after being in storage for a couple years, the 3B is back and getting ready for the NH run, after replacing the old gas with some fresh gas and a new filter the EFI Fhead started right up, and still runs pretty good. It is still plagued with a very random stalling if idling for too long. But it doesn't do it all the time, and back when we were actively tuning and data logging, i could never catch it on the log. It seems to run real well, so i will leave it and see how she does in NH. I am considering switching to the Holley 1barrel sniper, if only for the simplicity of tuning it. Being able to look at the parameters live and make some basic adjustments right there is appealing, i guess we will see how she does
I know you have some miles on yours now, any issues with the fuel starvation using the under seat tank? |

No stavation yet. It's still good on steep angles too, as long as I've got a full-ish tank.
I used the CPP Universal Fuel Tank Return Line Fitting Install Kit for the return line. I have an external fuel pump from Howell that provides 15 lbs of pressure and 3/8" rubber line (I think).
