Bretto and I ran down to Moab today and ran Hell's Revenge with some guys from the rme4x4.com forum. We were the only two flat fenders. I have a bunch of video that will take some time to edit, but here's me and Grampa's Jeep going up The Escalator obstacle. I've been thinking about it since Easter when jpet and Bam Bam went up it and I passed on it.
Accidentally started up it in 2wd. Oops. Worked out ok though. Edited by smfulle - 05 Nov. 2017 at 2:22am |

Nicely done Stan! I do wonder what is up with you and Ward attempting the obstacle in 2wd though.

Well, Ward is one of my heroes and I want to be like him. Don't think I could stand the beard, so 2wd up the Escalator will have to do.
While the rest of our group was dawdling over on the river lookout. I scooted over to Hell's Gate while no one was looking, then I ran it again for the crowd, but they also, still weren't there, so I ran it a 3rd time just to make sure there were no doubters. Here's the video. Thanks to Bretto and his wife for the video work. |

As I commented on your YouTube channel, it doesn’t get any cleaner than that!

Once you tossed him in to 4WD, G'sJ gave no hesitation about getting up escalator. Impressive to say the least.
Other than the foreigners scarily driving thru Hells in their rented side by sides, YIKES!, you were by far the star of the crowd all day and to paraphrase a spectator "that old piece of beater junk puts those high dollar machines to shame". I took a little offense to that but at the same time was proud for ya. I didn't say anything cuz I knew what he was trying to express. Becky and I had a great time, made it home last night around 10:30p. Brett

Awesome Stan!
You surely emasculated a number folks out there that day. Certainly there were some that quietly questioned why they've spent thousands upon thousands of dollars on their rigs...just to see a 70 year old...mostly stock Willys...conquer with ease...very challenging obstacles. It warms my heart.

Very cool! If one follows JP magazine or 4 wheeler you would not think a stock vintage flatty could not do anything at Moab, pages of meaningless accessories, upgrade kits, Lets not forget the macho tires advertized on nearly every page , and here comes Stan! And Grandpas Jeep with ND tires rendering the pages of these periodicals meaningless!.... I approve!

Stan, just curious, did you try either of the two "tubs" on Hell's Revenge? Would love to see videos if so...

Steve, Ran through the easier one. I think they call it “The Car Wash.” I’ve got some on board GoPro video that will take me a while to get edited. Mickey’s Hot Tub had a huge crowd around it. I watched a few rigs go through that kind of got me fired up to try it, but I didn’t want to do something stupid just because people were watching. Jpet and I were there at Easter and we got some good video in and out of the The Car Wash. Here’s the video from Easter. |

Thanks. Was there in May. Wondered how it would be. A "regular" jeep did the first tub. Said he was too big to do the second. Now I have something to aim for.

Stan, you and Ward are my heros! Watching you and GJ making those climbs was one of the coolest things I’ve seen in any kind of jeep. And, BTW, you won’t even notice the beard until someone comes up to you and wants to touch it
