Hello
MY new exhaust manifold with heat riser just got here today
and when I look at it with the riser closed you still can see
down the thru it to where the exhaust pipe would connect.
My old one would completely close off the
opening when it was closed. Have they changed the flap
value design in the newer manifolds?

Sorry for the 3 post! The one on the left is my new manifold and the one on
the right is the old one. You can see that the new one does close completely.
Is that how the new heat risers work?

Let me guess: Kaiser-Willys? Omix-ADA?  BW
It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

It should close completely. Is the bob weight on correctly? There is a slot in the rod that the weight fits onto and a set screw to hold it fast. The flap should close when the bob weight is in the correct position.

If you can't make it work, send it back to the vendor and find one that works.

Place a straight edge across the exhaust port suface and see if it is flat all the way across while you are at it.

Did a bubba adjustment! Use a wooden hammer handle and bent the
flap a little so it closed completely and it seems to working right now.

Now do yourself a favor and check the hole where the balance rod goes through the body of the manifold. Mine leaked air like a hose.

There's a reason it's called Ol' Unreliable
