Part of the reason that my heat shield was so difficult to remove was because someone had mounted it next to the frame rail, under the steering box and master cylinder support holes, so I had to loosen up all of that to get it free. I did get to try just about every wrench and socket though - and still didn't find the perfect one.  Big screwdriver and hammer helped LOL
