I would like to track the history of my 46 CJ2A. Where it went after it left the factory and etc. Any suggestions?

Yes ask the person who you bought it from and keep going backwards that way. I am unaware of any documentation that would tell even where a jeep was sold originally unless there happens to be an invoice with the jeep.

It used to be that you might get lucky & the state would have registration records going back decades. It would cost around $20.00 to search them. However, these days, most states remove registration records after around seven years. I would bet that California is one of these states.

Other than that, what Mark W. said. Us old farts who have owned many Jeeps in the past, may not remember where & how we acquired that specific Willys.

Good luck, Cpt Logger.

If a vehicle has not been registered in CA for 10 years they ship the records off to some dark basement never to be seen again. At least that was what I was told when the dumbarse I bought my 66 chevelle from gave me the wrong title and I didn't check the VIN (yes my bad but who has more then one 66 Chevelle to sell?) I had to give up the Title I had and got stuck with just a Bill of sale and CA said no records found.

Actually that would not work, the sellers wife handled the sale. The husband had health problems. I'll keep trying. And I have reason to believe that the person they bought it from is no longer of this earth.
