Houston, we have a problem. I purchased my Bantam from a guy who had it since 1970. He handed me the serial # plate and said it fell off years ago but he kept it.
That # is 18384
While stripping paint this weekend, I found a #16494 stamped on the landing gear. The gear looks like original equipment and not a replacement.

Who's Who here???

thanks

I've never heard of or seen the factory stamp any parts with the serial number. Only the Data Plate had the Bantam Serial Number and the early 45s that were made from surplus T-3 parts also had an ACM number stamped in the front left spring gusset.

I would not see a reason to disclaim what the owner handed you.

Must just be a part # then eh? It didn't make sense to be a serial # as its on a removable part.
Thanks

doylestown,
Yes!  That is a part number for the pivot piece the leg is attached to (should have 3 adjustment holes in it).  The main casting piece is also numbered, #16495.  You may find other stampings, i.e. Fulton coupler: 06 COUPLING
