Please compare old original product with new on pics.
Ordered the new manifold assuming it has the heat riser built in and that it is is functional.
Could I assume it is functional? -heat riser spring missing ? -saw depth down to almost zero material thickness? Will it last 10minutes of heat? or? -exhaust channels, size / shape? compare with original on pic! Has anyone experience from this sort of product? |

The first thing I did when I got my jeep was replace the manifold with one from kaiser willys. I had to order the heat riser, and shave a few mm of the manifold so it would spin freely once installed. I have had it on for over a year and have had no problems whatsoever. Bolted right up.

In this case do yo think I would need to grind/enlarge the outlets seen on the photo number two?

I would send it back, the saw cut could very well crack during the first heating and cooling cycle the part went thru.

I agree with Munkjeep about the saw/grinder cut: these are very expensive items in europe, after all, so an imperfection like that isn't acceptable.
Apologies if I missed the posts, but what was wrong with the original manifold?

Thanks rrivera, munkjeep & Vince.
The original was welded and I did not want to check it out when motor is assembled.
My problem is that the value of transport to Finland from USA and import taxes/customs is in the same ball park as the value as the manifold. Could not imagine the import manifold was of this low quality and in addition the spring is missing, so if I understand correctly it will not function anyway. I am stuck! |

In which case, you probably have to go with what you've got, and get some wear out of it. I'd tidy up the new one, buy a spring and use it. If it fails, then you can worry about having to repair it (or re-use the old one). Since rebuilding mine, the manifold has had to come off twice, and it's not a big deal, even with the fenders and everything else in place.
My old manifold had several cracks, and the spring missing. I looked at the cost of a new one - about $340, plus shipping - and that's from within the UK. I could have bought one from the US, but as you say, with shipping, import duty etc etc. I also looked at getting it welded - that would have been $300 (but I think they would have done a thoroughly professional job). In the end, I used a place that cut slots where the cracks were and brazed them. I also bought a new spring (from Universal Jeep Supplies in the UK). It has functioned perfectly though.
Whatever the outcome, you have a right to be annoyed with the new manifold you bought.
