I got this little guy to break loose. It now cranks from top to bottom. When I get time, I'll blast and paint it. Sometimes it's just the little things, but this has me pretty happy today. :)

Nice. It is always a great feeling no matter how small the part is.
I just picked up a surplus one of these this weekend. $50 with a NOS WWII lug wrench that is unfortunately 3/4" and not the 13/16" that the 2A needs. I have a question. The tab on the end is stamped "UP" and "DOWN." When I rotate it, it doesn't seem to do anything regarding the motion of the jack. What is the purpose? What am I missing? Micah

think of the jack as a big turnbuckle, turn it one way it raises, opposite way lowers.

Micah, On mine, when I rotate the tab 90* so it stays pulled out, the jack disengages and free spins. Tab in is engaged. Crank it one direction is up, crank it the other direction is down. I can only assume that is how it is supposed to work. Pete

It's a ratchet mechanism. You don't turn it round-and-round, you work it back and forth, like a socket ratchet. The tab reverses direction. BW

Amazing how we can find good-therapy and gratification from rust-works.
hahahaha hey, the snowstorm we had a few weeks back straightened out the turnbuckles on my carport canopy tarp supports. an overnight 12-inch snowfall. Nice work on the jack refurb, and another one saved from the bone-pile. |

Bruce,
That makes sense. Mine must be broken. I don't get the ratcheting effect. Micah

Maybe it's got some rust in it. Maybe soak it with your favorite penetrant and work it loose. BW

Bruce,
You were correct. Sprayed it a couple times with some penetrating oil and cycled it up and down a few times. She appears to now ratchet like she is supposed to. The free NOS lug wrench I got was 3/4. 2A is 13/16. Friend of mine has a WWII Jeep and needs a wrench. So, I will pass it on. Micah

I sprayed more PB Blaster in mine. It's moving pretty freely, but still no rachet action.

Part of your problem is that WD-40 is NOT a penetrating fluid. It is a Water Dis-percent, thus the name WD-40. Try using an actual penetrating fluid.

Freedom21,
It that a CJ2A Jack or is it for something else? I see that your has a square base. The WWII Jack's have a rectangle base from what I have seen (again not sure what is correct). Just wondering if you could verify or have any ideas. I have one with the square base like yours but am not certain if it is correct for the CJ2a.
