Falcon, if that's the 7.3L PowerStroke V8 diesel (made by Navistar) I'm thinking it is, judging by the year of the F250, it's the good one--Caterpillar injection pump, 7 head bolts per cylinder, and no EGR. The one that followed was full of issues.

Well, Ive been working on the truck a lot lately.... I knew the bedfloor was rusty on the truck when I bought it so I have had plans to build a bed for it.... about 10 years ago I bought a rusty old toyota parts truck.... it had a steel bed on it. I loved that thing... I ended up turning it into a camper.. It was been great! we use it heavily every year! So when I started laying out the new bed I thought.... "why not copy the camper bed. SO... I did I just made it bigger.
Here is the old toyota. Here it is after I scrapped the truck and re-purposed the bed. [img]https://i.imgur.com/kQddscQ.jpg[/img I drew up plans and ordered material. I pulled the bed off and found lots of disgusting rust! There is a dustless blasting company less than a mile from my house... They came to me and blasted my frame. Much better. Beginning the layout. |

More progress,
As I type this the bed is painted, and mounted.... I just need to take pictures... I just have to mount the mudflaps, and wire the lights. I will easily have it ready to go for the trip to the willys reunion this week. |

Falcon, this string is titled 'Jeep Hauler'--will you be trailering your TDI flatfender to the Ohio rally behind the Toyota pickup?
And, no paint on the new bed and rear chassis? |

The Toyota was just a reference... I made a larger replica. It is painted and mounted on the super duty now.

Falcon, are you doing all of your MIG work with the Hobart welder that's visible in one of your photos? And if so, is it running 120V or 230V?

Thanks guys. I hope to have the wiring wrapped up today and have the truck out of the garage for some final pictures. Yes I used my little Hobart mig for 90% of the welding. It’s a 120v machine. The duty cycle does slow me down on a bigger job like this but I’m always impressed with what I can do with that tiny machine. Most of this job was 115-135 amps. I have an Eastwood ac/dc tig that I did some welds with. That is a 200 amp machine. The channel and tubing is .125 wall and the sheet steel is 14 gauge.

I finished the wiring and new fuel filler tube this morning.. Its pretty much done. I do need to install my new flasher relay since the tail lights are now LED. Now that the bed is gone and the frame is blasted 90% of the rust is gone! Sometime before winter I will replace the drivers side cab corner but that shes ready to drive now!

Nicely done! It has a 'stealth dump truck' vibe.
