It's time to start thinking about Jeeps in January 2023. As usual, I have chosen the last weekend in January to avoid as much of the NFL playoffs as possible and give me as much time as possible to dust off my herd. So if you anticipate your favorite NFL team will be booted early on from the playoffs :( or you just need a mid winter flat fender jeep fix, come to JIJ. The date is Saturday January 28th and it takes place at my shop...

Mad City Manufacturing
2301 Advance Road
Madison, WI 53718
joe@madcitywillys.com

I will be at my shop (which is heated) by 6 am and people are welcome to come as early as they wish and stay as late as they wish as well. Although Friday is not a formal gathering date, people are welcome to come a day early and hang out. My guys only work M-Th so on Friday it's just me puttering about the shop playing with jeep stuff.

For those not familiar with this event, it's a low key free event that I put on at my machine shop where I store all my jeeps and parts... kind of like an open house. Basically it's a great group of guys and maybe some gals hanging out for the day talking about jeeps and life. There are currently 23 vehicles, 4 trailers, and many pallet racks of parts and trinkets in the shop so there is plenty of stuff to poke around and have fun with.  I will provide doughnuts, coffee for you early birds, lunch (burgers, brats, chips, ect) and beverages (water, soda, and beer) free to all. You are welcome to bring something special if you so desire as well. Hopefully John is bringing the bloody Marys? Thumbs Up

Other activities in addition to pleasant conversation that will be going on throughout the day are:

1) Operation Warmth... The idea is to keep the engine in one of my jeeps warm throughout the entire day without letting it cool below 100°. So, I need people to take turns driving my jeep throughout the day keeping the engine warm. I'm thinking 5 min slots here and there driving my jeep on a small track around and in the small woods behind my shop. Anyone up for this?

2) Operation Collage... I did this last year as a 4'x 6' board. This year, I'd like to do one on a much  smaller scale (TBD) and then give it away as a door prize.... I'll ship it to you when it's completed. You scribble something cleaver and/or sign your name out the outside of the jeep line drawing, and I fill the inside of the line drawing with pics from the event.

3) Jeep Cross Word Puzzle... test your knowledge of jeeps and the English language at the same time.

4) Parts Manual Search... See how well you can find parts in the parts manual. Some parts can be quite challenging to find.

5) Operation Identify... Believe it or not, I have some parts in my shop that I have no idea as to the application. So help me out. Take a look and see if you can identify.

6) Swap Meet... I'm not really offering formal swap meet spaces of any size or cost, but feel free to bring jeep hobby related items that others may want to buy. You can sell inside for small items or outside if you have a truck load.

7) Machine Shop Services... I will be available to do some relatively simple machine work if any body needs a quick machining job done, but please keep in mind that I don't want to spend my entire day doing just that. So if you want something machined or fixed, please contact me in advance to discuss your needs and how we can best fit it into the day. Some examples of quick machining for the day would be reaming bushings to fit a shaft, removing broken fasteners, milling a surface flat, repairing buggered up threads, pressing bearings in/out... that kind of stuff. If you have more complicated needs, contact me and perhaps I can work on it on Friday or Sunday when I have more time.

8) Door prize drawing... walk away with some of my or possibly your stuff :)

For those of you wanting lodging close to my shop (2-10 min), there are several hotels close by to choose from that are reasonably priced. Here is partial list of available hotels that I would recommend.

1) Sleep Inn  608-221-8100

2) Days Inn 608-620-0107

3) Country Inn and Suites  608-467-0962

4) Americinn 608-467-4791

5) Magnuson Grand  608-224-1500

6) Super 8  608-620-7479

7) Americas Best Value (It's super cheep, but I do not recommend anyone staying there... known for drugs, violence, prostitution)

I look forward to seeing you at the end of January,
Joe

to many jeeps, parts, and accessories to list here, but apparently enough to keep me in trouble with my wife.

Hoping to make it again this year.

Just curious, what event is happening in Madison on the nights of the 27th and 28th?
The rooms are $100 per night more than any other nights that month?

Is there anyone that is going to Jeeps In January that might have a Dana 44 rear axle that they would sell? I'm looking for a 1970-71 Dana 44 off-set flanged rear axle. Thanks

Didn't think they made flanged axles for offset 44s, unless aftermarket. I couldn't find when I swapped my 41. I then converted it to a full floater.

The 70-71 CJ5s had an offset Dana 44 with 31 spline and Tru-Trac from the factory...I have one I bought a few years ago in a rolling chassis with a Buick V6/T14/Dana18 (not for sale)
