physical numbers on the coil are  IG-6V - 11B
"           "          "    "   mounting braket are IG4314  ("A" could be missing due to an off center strike)

Doug,
If the Auto-lite markings are similar to the way the did Auto lite generator tags this may hold a clue. On the generator tag the marks were coded with a date code. (courtesy of Todd Paisley)

   Month 1-12
1940  -  T
1941  -  U
1942  -  W
1943  -  X
1944  -  Y
1945  -  Z
1946  -  A
1947  -  B
1948  -  C

and so on   Sample (on a generator)   5A216426

 5 = May  (5th Mo.)

 A  =  1946

Ser. #   216426

Could 11 B  on your coil mean   Nov. 1947?

One more thing, Is yours a Hurd or a Yale key? that may make a difference in the bracket #'s

My Key appears to be non original.

Marked:
C RTIS KEY C.
CLEVELAND.O.

The reverse is marked:
MADE IN U.S.A.
Y12

The "Y12" leads me to believe the cylinder is a yale.

Here's another link to some info posted by sean.

My coil has CR3033-XS-6V stamped into the side. Mine does not have AUTOLITE stamped in large letters on the side.

Very good info...The rounded face on the Yale vs the more square cut Hurd makes it reasonably easy to tell the difference.

Hi y'all:

On the road, checking in after 5 days of travel.

IG-4314/a is the Autolite part number for the entire assembly.  It just happens to be stamped on the bracket, but the bracket has a separate part number which I can't recall offhand.

The coil itself is # CR3033XS.  Early ones are not marked CR3033XS, just IG-6v.  Don't know when or why the change occured.

W161 is a Hurd key code, S1171 is a Yale key code.  Might not want to publish those so clearly. Wink  The range of key codes is listed in one of the parts lists, '47 or '49.

Autolite date codes are just as Gary described.

Sean

The assy. number is IG4314A although it was not usually sold as an assembly in service, the auto-lite numbers for each piece are:

Coil- CR3033XS

Bracket-CE1248S

Lock/switch-CE-1331S

you can  still find the coil through people selling NOS Auto-lite parts but the switch and bracket almost never.

lo

I've been looking for this part for my 1946 cj2a sn 34586 with no luck.  Do you have a spare you'd be willing to sell or know of a source?

I don't remember that my original part had the ribs on the body that show in these pictures.

Thanks

Can anyone with the yale style coil tell me what the dimension for the OD of the key cylinder area that goes thru the dash is, and whether it is flush or sticks out from the dash? A picture from the key side of the dash would be helpful.. I'm trying to duplicate the look and function with a homebuilt bracket with a modern key switch and coil. Only problem I see in fabricating it is the switches available now have the start and accesory position, where the original I assume only had on and off??
I'll share the results when I get one setup finished..

Bill,

The OD of the cylinder area that goes thru the dash is 7/8" the depth is 6/16" plus the flange in the plate who holds the cylinder OD 1" depth 1/8".

See the picĀ“s in this tread, and you know what I mean.

Bill,

Gale did pretty much exactly what you are planning.  You should contact him for info about what switch he used and so forth.

I am doing a frame off restoration of a 1947 Willys CJ-2A; I have the original keyed coil.  Are these keyed coils rebuildable, and, if who, do you know of any companies or individuals who will rebuild this?    Thanks, David

Check Trader reed's posts for details on a place in Worcester MA that rebuilds them... Price was near $300 if I remember correctly, and there are other places listed in Hemmings MOtor news as well.

David Curtis...You might want to check-out "Atwater Kent Manufacturing" on your favorite internet search. These are the people you are looking for. There has been some previous discussion on their accuracy, but they seem to be OK.
