    Posted: 13 Nov. 2019 at 5:15pm
Hi I am new here.  I am trying to get an old cj2a up and running..I bought it with a v6 dauntless in it but it has been sitting for 20 plus years not running.  I found a L-134 motor for it and I am trying to find out what year the L-134 is.  The engine numbers on the block behind the water pump are U104668.  I have been searching the internet all day with no luck.  Can someone help me out or give me a list or web site for me to look it up.  Any help is appreciated.  Jess

The U denotes that the engine came in a Wagon or Jeepster. If a Wagon the Wagon serial number closest to that engine number is a 1949 but 134L engine numbers were never the same as the vehicle they were in as it was a running serial number and engines went into Water Pumps and Generators and Welders as well.

Show us some photos of the cast numbers on the side of the Block and the head and we can get more info.

Jesse,
   Welcome to the group !
A good thing we have Mark and the other knowledgeable guys to help us out !
We can spend countless hours researching these little tractors to flood our brains with jeep-data-overflow right.   hahahaha
Hey, I am retired finally, and jumped right out in Dec. 2017 and purchased me a '46 cj2a for "yard-art."   Wow, it takes some $$$ to keep it nurtured.
    Enjoy your find.

Mark, I do find the reading very interesting.
Just yesterday, I was doing some snooping around the web concerning engine block and head cracks. There was a guy asking for pointers on how to Determine which cracks to repair, and which ones to leave alone.

My Bookmarks for Willys is swelling to quite a selection of Articles and threads for different repairs and such. All Good Stuff to follow.

For the newbie Jesse: here is an interesting link of VIN number info.

https://www.jeepfan.com/tech/decoding-jeep-cj-vin-numbers-1945-1968/

Take a look at the production numbers from '46 through '48 !   Bunches.
Below is some good info to digest once you begin snooping around in this group using the "Advanced" Search engine.

I took some photos of the engine to help identify it.  I read some where there may be a year of production date stamped on the bottom of the motor on one of the oil pan rails on the block near the rear of the motor?  I will check when I get the motor on an engine stand to check the condition of it further.

I think it is a 1946-1949 motor? but not sure.  Attached are some photos to help identify it.  Any help is appreciated.  Jess
