I just stumbled onto this post. Interesting. However Citroen actually made an early 4 wheel drive 2CV that is even odder. The 2CV "Sahara".
It had a complete additional engine and transaxle in the rear:

Thanks, Joe Friday. Interesting engineering. Leave it to the French to come up with that kind of design for a four wheel drive car. The regular 2CV was a fairly common site when I served in Vietnam in the Siagon, Long Binh, Bien Hoa area. Of course, Vietnam was a French colony before we became involved so the French did import Citroen, Renault, and Peugeot cars. As a side note, the Vietnamese Army and the National Police were equipped with the Mitsubishi version of the CJ-3B. |
