Which way do the spring plates go on my '48 CJ-2A?

I found some pics where the plates go with the shock mount bolt towards the C-shackle, and some with the shock mount bolt facing away from the C-shackle.

The universal jeep manual does not show the cj2a schematic for this at all, and it looks like things changed a few times...

Well it looks like on the front the plates' shock mount bolt faces toward the front. Its the only way they can go because on the front passenger side one of the u bolts is wider than all the rest and the holes in the plate are spaced accordingly...

Check the shock location.  They can't criss-cross the axle.  So the lower plate will have to be on the same side as the frame mount.  It looks to me that front/rear shocks both are in front of axles therefore the plates would have the mount positioned forward.
