after doing some more measuring on the differential and the locker. We found that the cups were different thicknesses. Along with new thrust washers we now need a simple .010 shim on both sides and we are within allowable tolerances. Problem is where do I find them. They are 1 1/2" inside diameter and 2 3/8" outside. Any help in locating these would be greatly appreciated

searched everywhere I could think of no luck. One company said they could make them but there was a $500 minimal fee.  I cant beleive that 2 .010 shims are keeping me from putting her back together.

Why not buy a sheet of .010" shim stock on cut them out yourself? With it being that thin, you can cut it with sharp scissors and a razor knife.

why not get the cups replaced from Lock Right if they are out of spec?

cups don't effect the side gear tolerances. But that was a thought early on.

I found these on amazon after looking just a few minutes. The outside is a little small but that probably wouldn’t matter.

I found and ordered .010 shim stock before I saw that. But I'll keep that in mind. Thanks so much for finding that.

I went to my local Automatic Tranny guy and he had 2 or 3 jugs full of shims. I found what I needed there. Take your micrometer along to measure thicknesses. Wink

actually maybe not. With wheels off ground and hubs locked in,also front diff engaged. While holding the left wheel you can ratchet the right side. But while holding the right side the left wont ratchet.there is a pernissable difference between spaces between cups and pin. Should i  bring the left side closer? Also driving, you can turn the wheel farther left than  right when engaged. Kinda stumped here. had her apart 5 times now and still not right. Some more help  will be greatly aporeciated. Thanks in advance for any help on figuring this out

man...I’ve installed probably a dozen of these and never experienced your troubles. I’m stumped like you. Is it possible you have a bent housing causing some misalignment.

dont think so. Gonna take it on a gravel or dirt road and see if it breaks in.  If not the shim pack has some  .005 and smaller ill try bringing the left side closer to the minimum gap tolerances

felt it was best to pull the locker back out and check the gaps. Was able to add a .003 shim to one side and a .004 to the other. Bringing it closer to the tighter end of the allowed tolerances. Shes working perfectly now. Cant wait to go climb and crawl with some confidence. Thanks again for everyones help.

Glad to hear you got it working good, you will love the difference it makes. It does make it harder to turn on tight trails though. I removed my interlock pill from my D18 to allow me to shift back into 2LO then right back into 4LO after the turn was completed.

Belleview ol skool winch soon.
