My cousin has an old trailer that happens to be a bantam type - I don't have specifics about it yet, but I mentioned awhile back that I might be interested in it if he ever wanted to sell it and today he sent a text message asking if I was serious.  I need to go look at it, but he doesn't have a title so I'll need to look into that.

I know it has been converted to a 2" ball hitch, but still has the original "foot" stand.  It's been used to haul firewood mostly.  I know the bed probably needs work and I believe the back was cut for a tailgate.

What is parts availability like for these, specifically sheet metal?  My cousin would like to get $400, but isn't committed to that price.

You can buy all of the replacement sheet metal, but it will quickly cost far more than the value.  I've been debating replacing my floor but it's $300 plus shipping.  https://www.dlbensinger.com/product-category/t3-c-trailer/

When I lived in Oregon, about 30 years ago, a Bantam sized trailer did not need either a title nor a registration. I would bet that that has changed with all the Californians moving in.

Advice eh? OK, here ya go!Smile I like spending other folks money.Wink

I looked at pickup bed trailers last week in the Portland area. Don't ask why. $400.00 is about right for a usable trailer. You can spend much more than that if you want a pretty one.

If I were looking for a Bantam type trailer & it was usable, I would work a deal with my cousin. Now I am an all go, and no show kinda guy, so a homemade tailgate that worked well would be a plus to me.
As would the 2" ball.

If you are wanting an original trailer, this one could be a good base for one. However, you could spend quite a bit of time & money to make it into that. OTOH, They are not making these anymore, so... heck if it were me, that trailer would be in my barn by now.

At a recent auction I attended, two Bantam style military trailers sold for $350 (dated 1942) and $900 (dated 1952). Both were really rough in my opinion.
Small trailers are still not registered in Oregon.

Im gonna try to look at it this weekend. It’s at my aunts house, not too far away but they’ve been sick. Hopefully I can get photos this weekend.

Finally got out to look at this trailer and I think it's more than I want to take on right now.  I did not find any data plates.  The back was cut and gate hinges added to make a tailgate.  The metal floor was replaced with 3/4" plywood.  The sides and fenders are in good shape, but someone added 1/4" plate to the outside bottom 4" of the bedsides.  I didn't take any pictures and told my cousin I'd think it, but I feel like if I do bring home one of these trailers I'd like to start with one that is still original.
