I have a stock 46 cj2a. I want to build a sleeper off roader. I know we already have low gears in our axles but can I get even lower gears. I do not care about drive it on the street. I want to go with a Detroit in the rear. What do you guys use up front?

Check this thread out:
No options that I know to go lower in the axles. There are also deep granny low trans swaps that can be made depending what motor you are running. Options there as well.

Also no Detroit for a stock axel, but you can install a narrow offset 44 from an early 70’s CJ5 and set it up how you like!

Jeepcj559,
Depending on how stock you want to keep it. You can do a number of things.
Put traction control in the front and rear differentials - lockrites or Powerloc seem to get good reviews. The rear Powerloc will require you to upgrade to a Dana 44 - 19 spline axle. The T90C and Tera-low will get you to 57 to 1 or you can get even lower with the T90C and Rockeaters in the transfer case (something like 70 to 1). Engine horse power will be something else to look at (the Kaiser Supersonic set up right is said to produce something like 68 hp - which is a 10% improvement over the stock L134 setup - But if you read Mark W. 's thread there are other ways to get the hp up). Tires, springs, steering, brakes are also good things to look at. There are some great threads on making sleepers / Super Jeeps. "The Stuff of Legends" would be the thread in the modified section of this forum on -Building a Universally modified by JPet. His Jeep "Bam Bam" looks to the uninformed to be a WWII Jeep that seems a little more than stock. It is very much a Super Jeep. I think the best sleepers have narrow tires and look very stock. Old paint, worn seats, even a little rust are all part of the look - with the new all worn off. Let us know what your plans are. Start a thread about you build. Here’s my thread on installing lower transfer case gears.
T90c transmission, Rockeater transfer case gears, and original 5:38 axles are as low as you can get in “stock” assemblies. Anything else requires a higher level of modification.

Once you get to looking into it, you will find that options are mainly limited by imagination and money.
