I installed a final design intermediate gear blank into my case to determine where there was interference. Had to do some grinding on the reinforcing ribs on the inside of the front of the case.....

Hopefully you will be putting gears in there soon. The teeth are all cut and the heat treater has them now. I’m crossing my fingers that I will have these by the end of the week.

Bob it looks great so far!
Not to mention you guys are making VERY fast work of it.
Building these things is certainly half the fun and the other half is testing things out. I know you are enjoying the build cause it’s fun just reading about your WILLY’S works. |

Last night I fired up the Lincoln/Hobart/Miller welding table and attached the steel block/cover to the top of the case. The case was preheated to 450*F and welded with Lincoln 1/8" Nickel 99 rods at 95 amps DC+. Skip welded 1" long segments, peened the welds, and then kept it hot for 3-5 minutes before the next weld. After welding the case was wrapped in a blanket to cool slowly. This morning it was unwrapped and the case was still warm to the touch. Looks good, no cracks, but the welds certainly won't be winning any Beauty Bead awards. Next up, drill the top 3/8" mounting hole. |

Jeff that looks more like a cj6 or maybe a stretched 5.
I know I sure would’nt mind owning a cj6 with a v6 in it.
The old “AC Lincoln tombstone” is the same machine I use to weld on Jeep castings. I see that’s a fancy unit with DC capability too. |

The CJ-5 on the right is a friend's Jeep that is just visiting so I can install a new wiring harness in my spare time.

I "drilled" the top right mounting bolt hole with a 3/8" end mill so it was straight and then opened it up to 25/64" with a drill bit.

Bob, Is that the missing silver spoon from Christine's salad set you are using to clean out the oil trough on your milling machine?

I was hoping no one would notice!!!!! At least I didn't use the regular gas grill as a welding table.
