I just saw this really cool adventure by the Amzoil racing guys who slowed it down and drove from Colorado Springs to Moab in a 43 MB.  Quite the adventure. They covered a few of the trails that the Fall Color Tour hits.

Cool Stan! My '43 GPW did all the above on Imogene pass. I can really relate to this video. I love my WW2 Jeeps, but they aren't made and geared to do high elevation. The CJ2A fixed many of the problems associated with the MB/GPW's design.  Those guys were pretty tough driving in the rain like they did. I'd at least put up the top from under the passengers seat. Thumbs Up  John

Very cool  we have even done porcupine trail.

A few of us have discussed doing this.  We would start in Moab and end up at Mike's to start the FCT.  We just have to figure out how to get the trucks and trailers back.  I'd really like to do this, maybe in 2019 instead of the Rubicon.

Yes, and if you leave the trucks at Mikes, you get to drive the Jeep both ways , before you comment I'll answer, I'm thinking about it, LOL

From the looks of it, when they started out from here in Colorado Springs, they took Rampart Range and Old Stage roads to Cripple Creek.  I recognized some of that.  I guess they didn't stop and feed the chipmunks in St. Elmo.  Too bad they were early to Pearl Pass, too.

It looks like something that should be done with a caravan of flatties, doesn't it?
There's a reason it's called Ol' Unreliable

Stop at Mike's and pick up some drivers who will drive the rigs back for you and park them there???

its about 5-1/2 hrs from Moab to TDR via the hiway (to get the trailers to or from). Maybe we should research this. I’d like to see their map. I’m not sure how they started on Hancock Pass and ended up on Tincup Pass on the way to Moab.  I’m up for this. We could either start at Mike’s or at Moab but I think we should wheel Hell’s Revenge while we are in Moab.

Lee, I’m practicing my modified east river accent, still a Willys man through and through. And it’s doubtful I’ll ever see the inside of your pickup cab.😁
1000 miles give or take round trip would be a stretch for this old boy in RWILLYS. Pretty sure my grandsons attention span would be taxed as well.
