Don't be so sure that tank was "tweaked" from shipping. I'd bet it was out of line with the filler hole and you had to bend it to the right some to get it to go in. The Omix tank I have has the same issue! It's not a tweak from shipping, it's crappy mfg'g! Like so many other things from Omix!

I've noticed the aftermarket tanks will fit the hole correctly, but at a different angle. I know this because my gas gauge is a stick!

I noticed the neck angle a while back on multiple tanks (making me think they were all aftermarket vs. advertised as "original").

That grey tank offered by Walck's was the first aftermarket tank I was comfortable with concerning the neck angle.  It fit, top and bottom.  I buggered it up trying to line it and ended up with a tank from Pete DeBella (I think) and this neck was centered in the filler hole too (at that time, Walck's was out of those tanks he offered).  I will say this tank I ended up with does have the fittings on the bottom off by just a bit.

Thanks for fuel tank insight fellers.
I received my 1948 license plate, probably the easiest most satisfying part install so far.

It belonged to an original crew member of the PT-143! He survived the war and lived a long fruitful life! I got it from his estate and it belongs on a Navy jeep! So, it is going back to where it belongs!

Wired the jeep, homemade wiring harness utilizing mostly #10 wire though out due to that's what I have in my shop.  Not a bad thing.  Thanks to this forum for easy to reference diagrams, color coloring and troubleshooting pages. The service manual falls a little short when compared to you guys.  I used the heat shrink terminal with an adhesive under the heat skink, they worked great but expect the heat shrinking process to take up alot of time.

WHile the seat are out i scraped and wire wheeled the carpet glue out of the inside tub and sprayed it with Rust Reformer.

Well the state of Vermont cashed my $640 check today, that means we should see licence plates this week.Big smile
I hope Colorado DMV gives me a title after I pay them to register the jeep.
I used Lost Title Solutions
Ph. 775.237.3888 - FAX. 775.295.0103
All they really did was fill out this Application and run a background check and stolen vehicle report  for $500

So below is the Application if anyone else needs to use the Vermont method to acquire a title.
Beware the total fee changes so check with vermont also note my jeep has 6 cylinders not 4.

Your wiring harness looks great! It looks a lot like the original stuff, is that heat shrink or did you wrap it with something?

Hi Abe - I just found your project and it looks great!  I have a similar 1948 with a Studebaker Champion 6 in it.  I'm in Denver and I bought it from a guy in Colorado Springs.  He said this was a common swap in the 50s and my engine is a '51.  I've never verified the age, but I believe the previous owner.

I bought it, drove it 10 miles, and then parked it for repairs.  The mechanics on my project are in pretty decent shape so most of what I am doing is mostly cosmetic and general maintenance.
It looks like you've got it sorted, but if you want to come take a look at anything, you are more than welcome.

I really want an M29 Weasel.  Good question on the engine.
Weasel was the champion 6-170.  70hp.  Could all those 10th mountain division guys in Colorado have liberated Stude engines for their new hot rod jeeps?
