My guess is that you logged off and then, when you logged back in you used the "Quick login" that does not keep you logged on after you close your browser. Make sure that you use the full login next time.

understanding what hackers are after and how they go about it is very usefull when trying to keep your info private.
its not the kid surfing this site and looking at your profile that you need to worry about. the webmasters and web hosting groups who need to be on thier game, thanks to the little "googleturds" that are out there. the easiest way to describe googleturds is they are test web pages that are left open when the webmaster was designing a website. kind of a back door. yes there is more to it but its pretty in depth. a site like this isnt in much danger since there really isnt any private data stored. okay, your name, email, and date of birth, but these things are public record anyway. however, a website that sells products (has a "cart") and you need to enter your info into in order to proceed, well these servers are gold mines. if the webmaster leaves a back door when creating the site, a hacker can easily walk right in and grab all the stored data on that server. another type of hacker is the one who is useing your computer as a storage device for porn sites, or file sharing and whatever else he/she wants to use it for. have you ever had a computer that had disk full errors but yet it still looks like tere is plenty of room in it? have you ever come across a pop up that when you clicked on the X to close it it still opend anyway? maybe a bunch of web pages opened up? There are tons of ways you can be hacked and all kinds of reasons they do it. statistics are your computer is hacked less than ten minutes after the first time you connect it to the internet... I work in ths arena and yes my friends, it is a scary world out there! if you want some more info on googleturds and more, here is some good reading plus it has some usefull tips that apply to alot of search engines. http://pdf.textfiles.com/security/googlehackers.pdf sleep well Edited by Keith.Tracy - 01 Mar. 2012 at 3:02am |

Nah! All my money is in my collections. Besides, I've taken every reasonable precaution (fingers crossed) to protect myself and my family. After that, I am well armed.

Hey there atexascattleman, I see by your updated profile that you live in North Texas. That narrows down your location to 134,410 square miles . If you are ever in South Texas look me up - I'm in the book. Oh wait, they don't do books anymore!! Guess I'm safe. Although I did just discover that I have purchased $157.19 worth of something in Paris France yesterday.

I have frequently suggested that posters give a little more information like first name and location when I respond to their inquiries. For example, if they want to know about parts availability it would be nice to know where they live as there may be a vendor around the corner. Although my memory is poor, I believe it was on this site that someone discovered that there was another CJ2A nut almost within sight of his house. On the other hand, if you want to keep secrets, I am not going to shun you.

Keith, I certainly am aware of and share the concerns that you have mentioned, but I think the bit that I quoted is misstated. I believe that it is the unprotected PC (no firewall, no AV software) that is subject to being hacked within a short time of connecting to the Internet. Those of us that have a reasonably configured firewall and decent AV software are targeted just as everyone online is, but we are not successfully hacked ordinarily. |

true true, cant state all facts or it would be a book. plus im not getting paid for a network security course :)
point was there are bigger worries out there other than listing some simple personal info on this site. by the way, your firewall does a decent job of keeping intruders from connecting to your network (wireless) and blocks port scans and other basic hacker tools, but what they dont protect against is what you inadvertantly invite into your system. again, im not writing a book, but the basic linksys router from bestbuy isnt really doing much except keeping honest people honest. |
