Got a sweet deal on a Monarch Governor at the Great Willys Picnic for ole Rustie girl. Anyone know where I can get seals for it? Particularly the front one. It may not even leak but?
Also the oil level hole plug has a hole in it? Why is this? And why so little oil capacity?  It’s no wonder these things got burned up.  Any advice or direction would be wonderful.

It sounds like you're missing the 'needle screw' that fastens into the oil level brass plug, its a two part fitting. The "needle" is used to check lubricant level without making a large mess. Here is a picture I had available of mine. I'll see if I can find another one that shows it close up.

Thank you Tim. That’s exactly what happened. Any closeup pics would be great! I’d like to see how the control arm bolt is done on yours, mine is spaced out from the body with a nut and the arm is between the head of the bolt and the nut, yours looks tighter to the body. I’d like to get a new arm or I’ll have to repair mine because the whole is wobbled out pretty good.

Few more things. Where can I get the tag for the gov mount on head?
One more... when I removed the screw on the carb and installed it in the upper hole (per service manual) so it frees the accelerator pump lever from the throttle lever. How is this correct? It won’t pump gas now? Anybody want to tell me what I’m missing?

The warning plate for the mount is listed on ebay and dataplatesforyou.com makes them also.  The Monarch  governor is made to use as a stationary unit so you wont be able to use the gas pedal to drive the jeep like you can with a Novi  governor.

Well! That’s a good thing to know. Here I was always under the impression since they were sold for the 2A, both the monarch and Novi would work the same. So this would have been  strictly for an agrijeep? Thanks for your great knowledge Tim!

Here are some reference photos of the oil level needle screw. As far as the bolt/nut set up on the pivot of your control arm, that originally was a shoulder bolt that attached the two parts and allowed for rotation. Unfortunately, I lost mine about 6 months ago while on a drive. I back tracked my route and never found it. I've been trying to find one online and locally, but no luck yet.

Here is a link to a pattern I made for another member who didn't have the arm. It is 1-1 scale, so it should be pretty close.

Really nice of you to send me the arm blue print and specs on needle plug, thanks man! I looked closer at all your posted pics and started the hunt last week for a 3/8-24 X 3/4 shoulder bolt. What I found out is it will be most cost effective (and quite possibly the only way) to have a local machine shop make me a few. If this works out I’ll send you one. I’m going tomorrow. Any reason not to do grade 8? Anything thoughts and input is appreciated. On another not I had mine working Friday night! So very cool. Now I need something to run off my drum PTO.

I've never seen a "standard" shoulder bolt with fine threads.  You will need to have some made or find a secret stash of them OEM.

Look for them under the heading of "Aircraft Hardware", If no one else has a Part number for them, I can look them up in my "Black Aircraft Standards" book. I will not have time to do this until Wednesday at the earliest.

Of course to find the part number I will need the dimension & thread pitch.

You could use a bushing with a regular bolt the correct length and no one but you would know the difference.

thought of that but...... nice just knowing the shoulder bolt is in there. The bushing would be pretty thin unless you reamed out the arm to get thickness.

Threads: 3/8-24, shoulder diameter 3/4" (from post above), shoulder length not given.

The bolt length is 3/4 including shoulder. And the shoulder portion is .200 tall and 7/16 diameter. This should allow just enough when snug for the arm to pivot freely and not wobble a whole lot.

Here are a couple of photos of the mounted control arm shoulder bolt that Aaron had machined. Thanks again for doing this and helping another 2A owner out. Awesome job!! Thumbs Up

Hey guys, I am also rebuilding a Monarch Governor, and what is missing from mine is the spring that is attached to both arms. Would anybody have specifications for the spring such as length (from hole to hole) and width? Thanks!

Max,

The spring is 2-1/2" from hook to hook and has a 7/8" diameter. I just did this real fast with a tape measure, but the dimensions are pretty close.

Tim
