When I bought the CJ the foot starter was disconnected, with a solenoid on the block and a pushbutton on the dash where the governor handle would be. The Ignition coil was installed on the firewall under the dash. Since I didn't have a keyed coil, I put it on the block right where the solenoid was. the correct keyed coil is on the shopping list.

Got home from work yesterday and had the place to myself, so I did what any other Jeep obsessed person would do. Out to the garage to tinker with a Jeep! I took apart my spare windshield frame to recover both panes, with out breaking either of them. I need one to replace the passenger side glass on my Jeep, as it is very badly cracked. One step closer to getting safetied!

I'm planning on pulling the Transmission/Transfer case over the winter to clean them up and replace seals. Is it very difficult to do this job without removing the tub?

X2! In my opinion it is easier to remove the transmission and transfer case from underneath without the hassle of removing the tub. |

As you can see, I've got a bit of cleaning to do.
One question, have many of you pulled out the "Low Range/ 4Wheel Drive" interlock pin? Is it easy to remove?

I did it during overhaul, but it is not necessary for a daily driver that doesn't have a locking differential in the front axle.

That is a great, original find. If you can find a transmission jack, it makes the tranny/transfer removal much easier and get the jeep up a bit on jack stands to give more working clearance. My $.02

"Easy to remove?" If the only thing you are doing is removing the interlock pill, then no, it is not easy to remove. You have to pull off the front bearing cap which requires disassembly of the transfer case shifters. This in turn can mess up your shift rail seals and ... That having been said, if you are doing a transfer case rebuilt, or even a pull apart for new seals and gaskets, it's really easy. Once everything is apart, just tip the thing sideways and out it falls.

I pulled my trans/t case out sitting on all 4 tires with just a floor jack, but when I put it back in, I will raise it up and use a floor jack with trans jack attachment. I do everything myself and I think it would be very difficult to line up the input shaft with just a jack.

Started to pull out both halves of the windshield. I started by saying I'd only replace the broken side, and leave the other side alone. But since I had it apart... Mission Creep!

Got it out for a test drive around the block, and I was impressed with how well it handles, but the brakes do need attention, as does the clutch. I do have lots of time though, I'm working from home with only four months to go before retirement.

Finally getting a bit more work done, the brakes are coming along. There seams to be enough meat on the shoes for safety, but since I'm in there, I'll install new ones. But I'll keep the old ones. |

Amazing jeep and now amazing trailer. At some point, I hope to get a '45 trailer to go with my '45 CJ2A, but that's a ways down the road.
Sincerely, John
