These leaf springs were a nightmare to take apart and clean but I'm happy with the end result and they look a lot better than before! In the future I'll get hold of some new leaf springs but for now these will have to do!
This is how horrible they looked vs cleaned up. They were covered in the same rubber-paint crap that was on most of the jeep! That stuff has been the biggest mission to scrape off almost everything that I've worked on before I can actually start going at the rust and old paint with the grinder. Glad that's over! All the blades got a shot of etch primer before I re-assembled them. Re-assembled. With new pivot-eye bushes. Ready to be installed :) |

The final coat of paint went on the frame today and now the re-assembling process can begin! This is definitely the most exciting part of the build so far!
The engine is also disassembled and will be on it's way to being rebuilt soon! I'll keep putting up photos of the progress. Please let me know what you guys think of how I'm doing with my jeep and feel free to ask or comment about anything. Would love to hear what everyone thinks! |

I had some fun time lapsing myself spraying the frame! I plan to do a time lapse of the entire assembly process. I'll have to be patient but I think the result will be quite cool.

I liked that! Quite often I'll enjoy a video but don't care for the accompanying music, so I just turn it down or mute it. Not this time! BW

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

Well done Sarge, you have done an amazing job so far! It is going to look fantastic when it is all back together. You going to take a road trip up to PMB in it?
Keep up the momentum! Mike

Thanks again for the comments!
Mike, thanks I also cannot wait for it to start coming together! Hopefully the parts I need will arrive soon so that I can finish off the hubs and brakes on the front axle and start assembling it all onto the frame! A road trip would be great but after reading how heavy these jeeps are on fuel I might have to keep the trips short at first Berettajeep, thank you for posting the video! |

Looks like you are going to have a really good Jeep when you get it together. Good documentation of the project. Thanks for sharing your project with us.

You sure have determination. When you get it done and enjoy driving it, and the dust settles and the pain is healed up, I predict you will find another , different model Jeep and do it again! I also see you ride a Yamaha! Birds of a feather flock together. Ha! John

Hi John, I think you're right haha! I have to say an MB would be quite cool to do but I doubt I will find one here in SA.. But who knows!

I've been fiddling with the brake lines in the mean time. Cleaned them all up and straitened them out a bit:

Almost time to mount the leaf springs onto the frame so I cleaned and painted the shock plates and a the brake and clutch pedals which will also be able to go on soon.
It's so satisfying to see how nice and new these old dirty parts can look again after some care |
