I've been trying to get the u-joints of my drive shafts disassembled. Finally got them apart tonight and could then start cleaning and freshening them up.
These are the only parts that have not been cleaned up yet. It's quite cool to think that every single other part on this Jeep has been through my hands and now looks almost new again! |

Great job Sarge!!
Your Jeep is a very early CJ2A. It came out with column shift transmission and full floating rear axle. You can see the tub has the tool indents on the left and the elongated hole where the steering column passed through the fire wall. Keep up the good work!

Thanks very much Frans! Yes it is! It's very exciting! Unfortunately I don't have the column shift gear box anymore but I hope to get that back to original in the future I'm not quite sure how the full floating rear axle works or is different so I'll have to read up on that one!

Your jeep did not come from factory with full floating rear. Last 46 cj-2a to have full floater was #13453. Your model 41-2 rear axle is correct for your jeep.

I finally got my parts from Walcks in the post recently so now I could get back to working on the Jeep!
With the new knuckle seal kit, tie rod ends, and a few other small things I was able to finish up the front axle. I'm just waiting on the disks to be skimmed and then I will be able to finish up the brake system as well. The disks and calipers don't fit too well but they will have to work until I convert back to drum brakes in the future. New master cylinder and pedals installed. I didn't have the master cylinder tie bar (I think that is what that part is called) anymore so I decided to make a new one. I'll post a picture as soon as it's done. I also received a rebuild kit for the T90 so that is next in line to be rebuilt! |

Looking great! I happen to live about 30 min from Walcks, it's fun thinking of 2A parts traveling all the way to South Africa from basically my back yard.

Nice work Sascha - I have been inspired to start my own project page on the site. Look out for it shortly! By the way, if you need I can send you a cutout from the part you were missing (Master cylinder tie rod thingy). PM me if you need it.
Cheers - Mike

Thanks for all the compliments!
Windyhill, I'm very jealous that you live so close to Walcks! Because of our post office striking here in South Africa I ended up waiting over four months before I could get my parts after they arrived in the country... So I was very happy when they finally arrived! Next time I order something I'll use a courier company! Hi Mike, thanks! will do! I put the wheels on and rolled her out of the garage for the first time in three years! I'll hopefully be getting a set of original wheels soon but I definitely wasn't going to wait until then to take her for a spin. Even if it's just rolling around in the driveway! Hi Frans, thank you! If I swap them out then I will definitely let you know.
I had a late night rebuilding the transmission but it's all together again and it looks and feels a lot better than it did! |

Your work done so far is looking really great - I think Stellenbosch University should give you "special credits" for your engineering degree!!
Well done. |
