I guess I should start a build thread on this Jeep. I'll pick up where my "Running Dauntless Value" Off-topic thread leaves off. Keep in mind that I have an M416 build going and the '48 2A build as well, so this one may not move too fast. (As if you really care. LOL) Anyway, since I'm doing it, I figured I may as well do a build thread. If for nothing else, it will be a good way to log this journey.
After finishing up some other "To-do's", I decided to check the brakes. Or the complete lack of. PO had cobbled a floor together and mostly covered the access hole to the master cylinder. So after bending the sheet metal back, I was able to find that there was only moisture in the reservoir. I added fluid and slowly pumped the brakes and the master cylinder appears to be working. I put the cap back and on and verified that the brakes did pump up some. Next step will be to attempt to bleed them. I got the Jeep up on jack stands and just the time I was thinking, "these lug nuts are coming off well", the last 3 didn't want to let me off that easy. Wife wanted to go out, so I doused them with PB Blaster and decided to let them sit over night. We went out to dinner and donated some money to the casino and got home pretty late. Well, it's "Pure Michigan". I woke up to about 6 inches of fresh powder. So I threw the wheels back on and plowed. It didn't take too long to realize that the lack of wipers or defrost was severely hindering my view. So first I took off the driver's side door so I could at least hang my head out. I went ahead and finished up the plowing and then removed the other door and hard top. I usually plow with the quad, so being out in the open is no big deal. I just have a wider plow now. :) When I put the windshield down, the hinges felt pretty stiff. I realized that it was only the right hinge that was stiff. The left one is broken, so there was no resistance there. Well, more "honey-do's" to take care of. So hopefully I'll get back out to the shop today and work on something. Too many projects, not enough time...

Nice new toy. I was asked by my neighbor why I didn't want to use his rattle wrench when I changed out the wheels on my Volvo. My only comment was that you put them on with the same tools you have to change a tire. The master mechanic 0ff to the side just nodded

In this case, I think it was more due to rust. But I know where you're coming from. I do use air to get them off and allot of times to get them snug. But I always use my torque wrench last. I've been on the side of the road after a tire shop put them too tight. That's no fun!

Finally got some time to get back to the brake problem. Got the stuck lug nuts off without issues and was able to bleed the brakes. I was surprised that all the bleeder valves came loose relatively easy and none of the heads were rounded off. 3 of the 4 bled pretty normal. The left front was difficult because the last section of brake line was rigid line and right in the way of the bleeder valve. I was finally able to get to it and it was dry as a bone. Bled it and the brakes work great! Took it for a spin out in the driveway and was able to lock them up. I guess this model didn't come with anti-lock brakes.

Lols... "anti lock" in this world is generally associated with a single reservoir master cylinder

My daughter and I took the old Jeep for a ride in our field. When we got back, she took a few pictures of it. Here's the one she edited. I think I found my Jeepin' photographer.

That picture plays tricks to my mind. Almost looks like a scale model sitting out on a carpet mat or wool blanket. Way cool photo.

I see what you mean. Once you think of it like that, it's hard to un-see it. LOL. I assure you, it's a life-sized Jeep on grass, not carpet. :) I showed my daughter the compliments on her (smartphone) photography. She appreciates them. Thank you gentlemen.
