I have been making a bit of headway on the trailer over the summer. I have used the fenders that I took off of an M100 that I picked up. Finished up some little metal work. Also I have been able to get all of the parts primed with Epoxy primer and sanded. I am about halfway done with the fill work. So here are some pics of the work.
M100 fenders mounted Had to do a little dolly work to them. In the paint booth ready for primer. Epoxy Primer on. Primer sanded now to start on the fill work. |

Hi Jeep 46,
many thanks for sharing your information about the Trailer restoration. I noted that the plug showed in your photo is the typical WWII type. I will use the civilian type (I bought it from VWOM) and my mail question is how the cable is attached to the Jeep´s frame and how or where the cable is fixed when is not connected. I didn´t find an ARROW 41 tail light , but I found a DIETZ which is very similar. My other question if you know where could I find a transparent glass because mine is broken. Cheers and tks for your time. |

The power to the trailer comes from the socket in the back of the jeep and that is connected to my tail light power. I will run the cable on the inside of the trailer frame, from the hole in the back by the tail light. And will use bolt on cable clamps to the frame of the trailer. When the trailer is not in use I will drape the cable over the front tie down hook, or just let it set up over the front and let it hang in the trailer. On the glass question I had good glass in mine, I just had to make a new gasket for it. Sorry but I cant think of any place that would have it. Good luck in your hunt for one.

Looked at your model thread, pretty neat build and it looks like the real deal is going to be just as good. So you don't separate the box from the frame, just take off the axel, springs and stand it on end to paint the bottom? Getting closer to painting mine, which looks just like your Bantam, but then they probably all do. Wondered about the data plate/number; was that the serial number for that trailer or you just happened to find a plate and it had that number on it?
Wondered if there was any way to find what a number was once the plate is gone, no other clues, stampings or anything are there guys?

BENSH -- Thanks for the comments on the model. It was a fun little project.
And yup that's how I did it, we felt that the need to separate them was not their. So we did it this way and it works great. I am planing on bed lining the under side of the trailer and frame (to make it last longer and keep the gravel from the roads from chipping her up). With the same bed liner that I did the bottom of my 2A's tub. Good luck with your trailers progress they are fun little buggers to work on. As for the data plate. When I found my trailer it never had one on it. I was going to have a reproduction one made up, but never got around to it. Then I came across this one for sale so I just bought it with that # on it.
And as far as I know if you don't have the original # then you will never know it. some of the other guys on here can look at them and by some of the features on them they can narrow down a year. |

Good to know. Guess I jumped the gun working on the rear end first - but I wanted to get the lights on & working first thing. When I have time and won't be taking it on the road, like this winter, I'll pull the lights off and follow your lead. Guess that is a good way to get it painted from the bottom up and go thought the springs & shackels the same time. I was a fortunate in that mine still had the plate so pretty sure it's a 48 but my tail light didn't look anything like yours, much more plain.
I did get my side racks done (for now) this week so I can use them the weekend. I put a couple pics under the thread I started about the tailgate & lights deign done but I'm wondering if anyone has also put a front rack section on and maybe mounted a spare tire carrier?

I have been a bit slow on updating, so here are some few pics of the progress. A pic of doing the minor fill work on the trailer. Fill work done on the sides and some seam sealer down in the bed and sides. Right after this it went into the paint booth for the final coat of primer. Sanding the final coat of primer. The black stuff is called Guide Coat. and you put it over your primer so when you sand it off it will show any small flaws in the primer so you can get it nice and smooth. Sand, Sand, and Sand Some more. This is the stage I am at today. So soon I should be getting some paint on to it.

I have been able to get some more work done on the trailer.
It is in the booth ready for some bead liner to protect her belly for the rest of her life. All the drips on the paper is from the primer that we spray on before the bed liner. Done and unmasked Next step is that I am going to paint the frame black. The part of the trailer side that is inside the fender will be bed lined in the body color. That is why the black bed liner is on the frame at that part. To have the same color as when the frame is painted. I decided to give the landing leg a little boot to protect it when down. And decided to do the gussets on the hitch frame, just to protect it from the rocks that are kicked up from the 2A when on the gravel roads.

Flat black paint on the frame, next step flip her back over and get it ready for bedliner on the inside and on the inside of the fenders. That will be in the body color.
The black came out nice, I am excited to get the body color on and get this baby on the road this spring.

Well the last big hurdle has been crossed, finally the painting is done.
I am applying the primer for the bedliner to help it adhere. Bedlined and now masked for paint. Harvest tan on. A good sight to see. Unmasked and now ready for the fun part. Time to get it out of the booth and start to assemble it.

BENSH - Thanks.
Also a little bit of an update, springs and axle are on and so is the tailgate. The rubber is getting mounted on the wheels and they should be on the trailer soon as well. I will have some pics later on as the progress continues.

Pictures as promised.
Fenders, springs, axle, and tailgate on. Most of the arrow 41 tail light, license plate, and decal are also on. Wheels, Data plate, and wiring harness are now on. A better shot of the wheels. Now to just lift it off the saw horses that have been its home for so long. Now just finish off the wiring, get the rear reflectors on, and get this baby hooked up to the 2A.
