I was fortunate enough to attend this year's CFFC Fall Color Tour in Colorado with my dad.  Met lots of great flat fender owners and saw some incredible scenery! On my last day in Colorado, I decided to spend the morning checking out some flat fenders that were for sale just north of the Thirsty Dirt Ranch.

After looking them over and determining that I had enough room on my trailer to accommodate it, I ended up striking a deal to purchase a 1948 "Lefty" CJ2A with s/n 181231 and ACM number 170836.  The condition of the body won me over; it has some rust in the hat channels, but is in far better shape than anything I've seen near Michigan with very little waviness in the rear floor.  The original Picket Gray paint is visible in a number of places. The front frame horns will need some work, but the rest of the frame is in great shape.

A seized F-134 engine had been installed at some point. Since I have an extra L-134 in my garage, I decided to pull the F-134 and leave it in Colorado to reduce trailer tongue weight.   Many thanks to Mike for generously letting me use his well-equipped shop for a few hours to pull the engine! I was also able to acquire a full set of factory 16" wheels to replace the current wheels.

Here are a few photos for now.  I'm still debating the final direction of this project - trail Jeep or full restoration, but at a minimum, it will go back to an L-134 and the OEM 16" wheels.

Nice find 👍🏽…. Next time you haul 2 jeeps back the front one on as it puts the weight on the trailer axels… Have fun with it 😎

Lee, read the post. The F-head was left behind, so the heavy end (probably) was over the axles. SmileWink

It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

Congrats on the Lefty!!!

Just out of curiosity, by how much did you exceed your towing weight capacity?

That's a pretty heavy trailer weight before adding the second 2A...

I thought the Gladiator Mohave towing was only 4500lbs.

Trailer length is 20’.  So just long enough for a couple of flatfenders.

The 4,500lb tow capacity is for a manual trans.  This automatic trans equipped Mojave has 6,000lbs towing. At just under 7,000lbs for this load, I was over the rated tow capacity.  However, the Gladiator Mojave shares the same gearing, tires and cooling system as the Rubicon, which delivers 7,000lbs towing with the automatic.  The Mojave tow capacity was only downgraded for a slightly softer suspension.

Brandon, If the trailer is only 20 ft, and the towing capacity 7K, how are you going to transport the FC170 back next year?

That’s a great question! I may have to make a separate trip to get an FC!

Brandon,
Where are you located? We are in Clarkston. You can't be too far away. Nice acquisition, by the way. She looks like a peach. There's a local person selling two wheels on FB marketplace, if you need a couple more.

I wouldn't have dreamed it could tow that much weight. Thanks for the update.
