For the looks of it on the data plate...looks like the beginning of a 3. Can't tell what the second number is but the third number could be an 8 ending on 0. What do you think?
Nice find and yes it is an early one. Can tell by the spring hangers and the A-frame. What are you going to do with her? Restoration in the works? What color? She'll look great on some new NDCC tires (military) for sure. Just a suggestion, that's all. Congrats!!!! Joel

Looks like 2630 or 2680 making it about 1946
This would most likely still have had Combat wheels on it and Firestone Deluxe Champion 6.00x16s. If you plan to restore it, I have the reproduction license plate brackets available in the For Sale area.

Art, mine is 3443, and the spring hangars on mine do not have the 3 holes... could this serial number range be the time frame that the wartime hangars were finally being used up?

Does anyone know if the stamping for the data plate shows thru on the back? I plan to pull the data plate off today so I can get it media blasted.
Here's a picture of what I believe the number to be.

I owned SN: 4409 and it only had the T-3 hangers on the rear so I think its hit and miss at a certain point if they got surplus mounts or new mounts. Here is an image of the reverse side of a Bantam T3-C dataplate used for the Hiawatha Trailer and I can not see the stamp marks in it:

This was an original Bantam T3-C trailer SN 20824 bought for repurposing as the Hiawatha by Gambles I believe as SN: 29778-G. I have only 2 in the Bantam database

Plan is to get it disassemble and off to the media blaster. Was thinking of doing it on my own, but I don't have the equipment so buying it is more than half the cost of them doing it. After that its going to need some metal work to fix some minor rust issues and some straightening and then the its looking like I will get it powder coated to match my JK. Still undecided on what I'm doing for wheels and tires. Original plan was common JK wheels and the same 35's.... that doesn't appear easy to do and I don't want to tear up what appears to be a mostly original Bantam.

Was there ever an under-bed spare tire carrier? Not sure what this is...
It is attached at each frame rail I also think I found the BANTAM lettering under the tailgate. I can't make out any letters. I can say there is white paint in the red and it is about 14" long and about 2.5" high. |

There was never anything factory mounted underside and yes you could have found the rear stencil...read through some of the posts and lightly remove the paint layers to reveal the stencil.
Looking forward as to what you find! Edited by 48cj2a - 01 June 2015 at 5:15pm |
