I am looking for a pair of good NACO Tail Light Studs. Maybe someone out there has a housing that is beyond repair but the studs are salvageable???

Thanks

Greg were you able to break them free of the housing with out damage ? I've bought parts taillamps with broken off studs and always thought about just swapping with carriage bolts.

Bob,
What did you end up using? I have a later set with the studs orientated 180 off. I was going to remove them, TIG weld the holes and install in the correct orientation. Don't know if the old ones will survive being removed and relocated. I like the carriage bolt idea.

Oh man, dunno if I can remember. I do know I had a pair of original lights - ALA or NACO I don't recall. Two of the studs were bad and I got them out without ruining the body of the light. Took one of the good studs to the hardware store and found some that matched. As far as I remember the studs protrude horizontally .... parallel with the road.

I am looking for a pair of these!

Hamhog just posted them on Tech Questions and Answers.

For those looking for a replacement for broken taillight studs, I'm providing pictures and measurements of an original part. I don't think this belongs in the parts list, but if I'm wrong, feel free to move it.

Type: Self-Clinching
Overall Length: 1"
Thread Length: 25/32"
Square Neck: 3/32" (square measures 3/8" x 3/8" square at the narrowest point)
Head: 4/32" (rounded flat head, diameter= 9/16")
Threads: 1/4"-20
Material: ?maybe aluminum, seems lighter that steel?

Thanks Dave!

I could make them for you out of steel if you’re unable to find them.

If you can duplicate a pair I am up for that. Just let me know what the bill will be. l

Nice. The original studs don't seem to be steel though. They seem to be aluminum or some softer alloy than steel, to allow for the clinch to grab the taillight bucket when pressed in.

I've been corrected by the magnet.

I can only imagine the concours car show judge saying " everything looks great except the makeup of those taillight studs, they just don't seem to be right". Embarrassed

Good job Lee.

Thank you Sir☝️ and I could not agree more 😬 perhaps if I make another set I’ll use stainless steel 😂

Sure does. So maybe it’s just the coating they put on the metal gives it an appearance of being an aluminum alloy. Cadmium or whatever it was???
