ok all, got a new one for you.. today i picked up a really decent '47, with the stipulation that i MUST take the parts jeep around behind the barn...lol  the parts 2A is #176589, ACM#165545, and engine#J188883. Here is the kicker, it is known that this IS the original engine in the parts jeep, it was only removed for a rebuild, and never got rebuilt. But, look closely at the pics, anyone EVER seen the word "SPECIAL" casted upside down on the drivers side between the oil pump and the bellhousing?  info greatly appreciated..low

You'll want to e-mail Dino  zg925@hotmail.com  he's got a large picture collection of L-134 engines. He might have some info on this rare/different/special block.

Sounds like the original engine and like someone dropped a stamp in the die.

low,

That's a weird one. I've never seen a block like that either. I feel bad that they made you take all the extra parts... hope you didn't have to make a second trip.

Well, low, I guess that just means that you are "special", eh?  Says so right on your engine!  Big%20smile  Also, I notice the number "6" stamped on the block - mine is stamped "10" - anyone know the meaning of these designations?

The special tag, it's not just up side down it's also angled like it was dropped in there.

I agree with Tader Reed. This is a "one of a kind" and someone like Dino may have a special interest in it. I think you should put it in the "parts project" as well. That way others down the road can discuss this as more is learned..Neat find.

I'll post my two "clock blocks" and we can start our own block archive. There is plenty to unravel in our own blocks here on the 2A page.

so, Alan, with that said, am i to assume that if i mic the bore, it will be larger from the factory than the listed bore size for a "non-special" engine from 47? my previous readings on the bore/overbore from the factory deals with the stamping of either an A-B or C after the serial numbers to designate the overbore size respectively..and of those blocks i have seen with the letters after the serial number, none have the "special" cast into the side of the block..

Dino just emailed me back... said he has never seen this casting either..said it was a long time since he has realy looked at a 640187 casting.....well, i hope he has that casting # wrong, because mine is 641087.....the 1 and the 0 are reversed.... cast date of 2-27......and get this, this is the motor in a '48, then why does it have the oval MB/GPW pad behind the oil filter area, and mind you, no numbers have been ground off, as it is clear to see the factory prep grinds, no numbers were stamped on the oval...my other 48 motor does not have the oval pad...so, DOES the word special really relate to something here...Dino said to check with Todd Paisley, anyone know how i find him?  thx..low
