Thank everyone. We're excited to finally get Briar Rabbit back on his feet with the engine going in next week.

To answer your questions: We used 18 gauge on the rear floor and 14 gauge on the front floors. Jason made the wheel well lip by hand and welded the whole lip in and ground it down.

What gauge metal are you using on the body sides? |

Mark, Good Question!! I was trying to find the answer in my "build book" but to no avail. "We used the same gauge as the original sides." We believe its 16 gauge, but not positive and we're not at our build site. If I find my notes, I'll confirm.

Well like "life" its never smooth for long, we had to modify out drivers motor mount bracket. It was facing forward and , of course, the 2a mount requires both facing backward. Once that was done we installed the engine, trans and transfer case as one unit.

Slow progress but enjoying it tonight. We bought 25 ft of 3/16 brake line, fittings and clips and for $40.00 and installed our own double flaired brake lines. I know for some of of you this is common place but for a old retired law enforcement guy, this was cool stuff. Yes, I know retainer clamps are not installed yet.....

whenever I check back in on these build threads it always makes me smile to pop back to the beginning... keeps me grounded. You may not see the brake lines as a big deal...
Pop back to page one Keep up the great work, all those small steps are called "progress"

Thanks for the comments. After watching some on this forum complete an entire rebuilt in 90 days, its hard to remember that its more about the journey than the destination. Two years, six months and ten plus days, working one night a week with one goal..... Jason and I are still working well together ( I hold the work light, I work the clamps, he does the work) and I appreciate his skills on this rebuild more than he knows.

Jason took this week off from our 2a project but fabricated this two piece hand crank. He thinks we needed to have one and use it when parked in front of our local pub. I think it came out great but may have to start working out so I don't embarrass myself.......

It looks like you're doing a better job with this than I could...
Just a quick observation on you brakes lines though, it looks like they are directly on top of the axle tube as the cross from the center to the backing plate? If that's true, they will be crushed by the axle snubber when you bottom out at full jounce. They need to run behind the tube at that point don't they? |

Briar Rabbit should be ready this Wednesday for a trip around the neighborhood . Temporary hookups and dash complete, all fluids filled and hopefully ready to go. Temporary gas pedal was a PITA to hook up (no leverage) without the body. Only two years, 11 months since we started, wish us luck!!!

CJ2A-CT: Are you using that red Craftsman air compressor in the corner of your shop for all of your painting? If so, what is its CFM rating (and does it keep up with your spray gun)? Just asking because my own compressor is on the small side--30 gal. tank and 6.5-CFM--and I hope to paint both my 2A bodywork and my M100 trailer with it this spring.

Lindsay, We've had no problems using that Craftsman for painting. Its 2hp 26 gal putting out 8.6 scfm at 40 psi and 6.4 scfm at 90 psi. Hope that helps... R/Dana
